I thought we should get the worlds topic going. In case you haven't noticed, Neal Dambra shot a 5 under, Matt and Robbie have no score as of yet. Kimhak had a 5 under and Nez a 3 under. De + 16 and Richard Mad Dog at +3.

Those are just the ones I saw! Holy Cow, Houston dominates!

Lot's of Texans competing...Mike Olse was in a 4 - 5 way tie for second after the first round only one shot outta the lead! Kenny Lee hits the first ace of the tourney!!

Robbie and Matt's first round over 5 1/2 hours on the course, two holes backed up well over one hour, OUCH.

Matt comes in ready to go and has to be on the course for 5 hours, how is that fair?

Just like Snowbowl in Flagstaff. courses on ski slopes tend to be tough and the backups happen. I only made it through 14 at Snowbowl in our practice round, Dee made it through 2. Took about 4 1/2 hours for the Masters women to play with no backups, Glad I was her caddie for the week, Though the Advanced men played it three times. I would have died playing three World's rounds at 10 to 15 thousand feet elevation. Young Lungs Rule. It was like five long holes uphill, one long hole downhill, five holes uphill, one down, five up, one down, DO CADDIES PUT PLAYERS ON THEIR SHOULDERS AND CARRY THEM? Maybe I was the cart.

It's time for the big shift tonight I believe. We will start seeing a more even playing field as they play all the same courses, the same amount of times. Good golf to the Texas players. How bout that kid Nikko, GO HAIR GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Lou,

Why is there such an unequal distribution of players with talent between the two Pro pools?

LOU18132
08-13-2008, 10:34 AM
I think they tried to put at least one 1000 rated player on each card the first day, just not enough to go around. Coda and Cale are in pool B for some reason. There are many more sub 1000 rated players in Worlds. Like when we had Worlds here the advanced fields fill and lots of people play open just to get in and play. Also if you don't have a chance in advanced why not play Open just to say you played Open at Worlds. That's my take on it.

LOU18132
08-13-2008, 10:50 AM
Had to look it up, but there are only 128 players in the world ranked 1000 or above. That kind of let's you know how tough it is to get that 1000 rating, and keep it. It's an elite niche of players. Kudos to them.

Been there done that, came in 2nd! .................................................. .................................................. ....

to last place! Would have finished higher but there were several people who quit. Then there was the guy who tanked the last round to take MY last place basket away from me. What tool, I am sure he had a nice time taking that back on the plan to Canada eh?

Going down the list for the Pro division, I only count 15 players with a PDGA number lower than mine.

Do you think I can get a discount on disc with my AARP card. :D

Hey Lou,

Why is there such an unequal distribution of players with talent between the two Pro pools?

Good info about how the PDGA seeds the opening card assignments at Worlds. This same basic procedure has been in place for all of the Worlds events I have seen.

If your PDGA number is lower than your total strokes for the tourney you know you've been around for a while.

If your PDGA number is lower than your total strokes for the tourney you know you've been around for a while.

So, assuming that I were to play 8 rounds at worlds, that would be 2410/8=301.25 strokes per round. I think I'm safe for now.

The putting has been the best part of his game, none missed from 35' in until today, OOPS. When he comes to my place and we putt I still beat him from 30' in, outside that he is too much money, Kills me. But then anything over 35' I have to drive. I do have my drives up to about 150' on average. Distance contest anyone?

I had a 10ft putt bounce right out on me after already having the worst luck in a long time and then the next hole my putt hit soft and flat but went vertical and then rolled 30ft OB. I started the round with 3 2s on some of the longer birdiable holes and then took a 5 because the spotter wasn't looking and couldn't tell us if I crossed IB or not. Next hole I rolled away OB, then went 4,2 which is good but then took a double circle 6 on the shortest hole on the course. My magnet hit by the basket, slid, and then rolled OB. My putt chained out and slid OB and then I missed a 6fter.

NO more of thsat still getting top 25.

I can't speak for anyone else out there, but I for one am very proud of all of the Texans playing out there this year!

We sure did send a good representation squad this year! I feel bad in that I've only gotten to see a few of our home-town crew!!!

Dan-o Meuller is really playing some great golf this week! I got to visit with him a couple of times now...I got a text msg from Matt Stillwagon and crew from the North side - he wanted to buy me a beer, but we got lost trying to find our way to the party and ended up missing him by 5 minutes! Rats! (I was thirsty too! :D) I saw Matt Hall on the first day, and Richard Lewis too. Mike Stallman has stopped by scoring central a couple of times asking when we were going to have tee times ready...

Great weather up here though! Good change of pace from H-town!

Looks like Rookie of the Year Cory Sharp did not make the semis. He beat Nikko out for the award. Though if you look back on the winners of this award there may be a curse on the winner, they don't seem to fair to well in the next couple of years. Some do well but not many. What's up with that? Maybe it is more of a popularity contest than true talent. Or maybe the ones voting don't know what they are doing. It's puzzling to me. I know Cory was telling a lot of people he was much better than Nikko, not this time.

it is obviously a popularity contest after this years results, and Des got the shaft as well.

Amen to that comment. Val just happens to be the "girl" of the moment.

I got to meet Val this past week. She seemed like a cool gal. Very down to earth. She was real good with kids too. Real nice. :)

robengle

In what way did Des get the shaft?

I have to disagree with the Val comment. I know her whole family (Leroy, Sharon, Avery & Val). In fact, I am doing a documentary on the whole family as being the "First Family of Disc Golf". She is definitely not the girl of the moment. I had the chance to caddy for Des near the end and Des is hurting pretty bad with a chronic hip problem.

Val is first class in every way. Even taking the time to talk to kids while playing in the final 9 for the World Championship. I did not see any of the other ladies doing that. Of course, she was winning by 12 strokes ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I love Des! But Val is the dominant player of the world and the other women will be hard pressed to keep up with this 22 year old. I also predict her to be the first 1000rated woman golfer in the world.

p.s. Cory Sharp was NOT the rookie of the year! He may have gotten it, but Nikko has CRAZY, MAD skills! No head game, but CRAZY, MAD skills!

the player of the year award, but it is my opinion and not up for discussion. LOL Val is kicking but this year, but the award is supposed to be for last years performance, and this has nothing to do with what kind of person she may or not be. You can read what Yeti posted on the other site.

after some searching, I have found the comment from Jay Reading.

Hall of Fame was Dan Ginnelly and Juliana Korver
Male Rookie was Cory Sharp
Female Rookie was Sarah Stanhope
Bob West Sprotsman was Jay Readinghttp://www.pdga.com/msgboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif
TD's of the Year were Old Man and Ma Wallace
Male Pro of the Year was Ken Climo
Female Pro of the Year was Valarie Jenkins

I will side-note that Val is having a dominating year THIS YEAR and is an awesome person and player. Des Reading, however, in 2007 in which the award is supposed to be representing broke records and somehow was not validated for such an incredible year.

Undefeated in eight National Tour Wins
21 wins in 32 tournaments (cashing in 1 of 2 playing Open)
1 Major win (Players Cup)
12-3 verses Valarie in head to head in 2007

In a sport where we don't make much money sometimes the awards are the special moments that make it all worth while. They are recognition amongst your peers of a job well done. http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/images/graemlins/confused.gif
