Now that Shawshank is full I guess we can go ahead & announce our next tournament in the 2011 Birdshot Championship Series....please join us at Oak Meadows in Bridgeland for Return To Neverland, Saturday, September 10, 2011! Much thanks to Ramsey Womack (a Bridgeland resident) for making it possible for us to come back to this great course for a tourney without having to resort to very expensive security fees (which is why we haven't been back in two years!). As usual, look for online registration to open up soon at www.houstonbirdshot.com (http://www.houstonbirdshot.com) and more info as well. I was just there for an Ace Race & the course is looking pretty good despite the occasional dead tree (due to the drought)....so make plans now to come out & join us!

Thanks Ramsey and Birdshot for making this happen. Is it going to be sanctioned?

Most definitely will be sanctioned & next in our 2011 series....and yes, a big thanks to Ramsey for getting us in....we wouldn't have gone back out there if he hadn't stepped up to take responsibilty as a resident! So what that means is that all of you better be on your best behavior next month...don't litter...don't be a nuisance, etc....if all works out well you can bet we'll back again next year (as long as Ramsey still lives there!);)

In the spirit of being good visitors to this course we'd also like everyone to try to carpool to this tourney. We've been asked to minimize the number of vehicles parked in the neighborhood so please try to share a ride with three or four other disc golfers.

Good point, Chris! Yes, there's not very much parking there to begin with...there is an overflow lot across the street from the entrance to the park but it's a little bit of a walk over to the course & where we'll be set up, so take this advice & share a ride with somebody or some bodies!:D Also...did I mention that there's a $500 ace pot to be had? Registration should be up very soon at www.houstonbirdshot.com (http://www.houstonbirdshot.com)!

Whoo-hoo, Chris! Let's get this party started! :D Sure...online is the quickest & easiest way to get signed up, but if you happen to see any of us Birdshot staff (Chuck, the Brogdons, Dolla Bill, Andi & Don with DGProShop and yes, even you Chris!) playing out & about we'd be happy to take your entry in person too!

Now with the correct pricing. Refunds for the overcharge have been issued to folks who paid yesterday.

We're capping this tourney at 84 players with a mix of four and five cards. Currently we are 20% full and I expect this tourney to fill up fast. If you want to play, register today.

Nope, we are playing 18. We actually have raised the limit to 90 now and I need to update the site to reflect that. We are going to have two pools too with Open and MA1 playing the blue tees in the morning while the rest of us play the whites.

Glad to see that rec will not be playing the blues. Those holes are far enough from the whites as it is for rec players.

I have never been able to find the unmarked blue tees. Has anybody from Birdshot actually played the blue tees? If so can we have the rules up for the holes before the day of the tournament?

Birdshot came out last Sunday to test the blue holes and check-in on some other things with the course. There is a map on DGCR that shows the blues (link (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course_files/1629/170aa8e6.gif)). Only 5 holes have a different tee than the whites. There is a chance to get permament pavers for the blues before the tournament, but if not, I will be flagging the blue holes on Friday (any earlier and I run the risk of the Bridgeland maintenence crew picking them up).

OB on Oak Meadow should be pretty straight-forward. Concrete and beyond is OB. There is no water (and I don't expect any) except for the lakes. In my mind, there are only two questionalble areas for Birdshot to clarify 1) the gravel path on hole #2 and 2) the concrete in the drainage ditch on hole #6.

I have been having a few people contact me wanting to practice and get a feel of the course before the tournament. Below are the times I will be playing this week and you are welcome to join me as my guest.

Saturday - 9:00 am (sorry for the short notice)

Monday - 9:00 am (for those of you coming a long way, you can make a day of the Cypress courses and play in the TAT mini on Monday afternoon)

Friday - time to be determined. Will probably be around 5:00 pm. Might set up a doubles mini.

If you would like to join, please send me an email (ramseywomack at gmail dot com) so that I can let the gate guard know that you are my guest.

-Ramsey

Anyone with a popup tent they are willing to bring Saturday would be super appreciated. There are a couple of holes that are really exposed and we'd love to have some shade at the tee box.

Sorry for the late notice, but between the smoke/health advisory and a killer headache I don't think I'm going to make it today after all. Maybe next week...

I will be out there at 5:00pm today if you want to come out for a practice round. Have not heard from many other players yet, so I will not be setting up a formal mini.

Email me at ramseywomack at gmail dot com if you are coming so I can let the gate guard know to expect you.

Do we need to know a special secret handshake, or a code word for the gate guard to let us in tomorrow morning?

Not tomorrow morning. They know 70+ people are coming. Biggest thing tomorrow is to not park on the grass or in the parking spots reserved for Bridgeland residents. There is an overflow parking area close to the course.

I have to work tomorrow morning so I can't play in the tournament but I was wondering what time the second round would start and if I can maybe play with a card if I can get out there on time?

I don't have a map. There will be signs up tomorrow morning directing to the overflow parking.

It is not an actual lot. It is a grassy area nearby.

If coming from N Bridgeland Lake, take a right on House and Haul, go past the entrance to Oak Meadow, take a right at the dead end onto the dirt road.

If coming from House and Haul, go straight instead of taking the last bend in the road.

We've allowed this sort of thing in the past when a tourney doesn't fill but we're expecting a full 90 folks out there tomorrow. I don't think there will be room on any cards in the afternoon, sorry.

Folks, we've got 9 spots to fill for tomorrow's tourney. Sign-ups will start at 7:30am at Oak Meadows. After we fill the available spots we will start a waiting list in case any registered players fail to show up.

Registered players need to sign in with Dolla Bill or myself in the morning. You need to make sure we know you are there by 8:30 or we will start giving away spots.

Please try to car pool to conserve parking spots.

My apologies to the Recreational division for having to drop out of the tournament in the second round. It is not in my nature to give up. I was nursing a case of Poison Oak on my right knee that was contracted at the Shawshank tournament, which then balooned into a staph infection. I'd been running a temperature earlier in the week, had low energy levels, and don't see how I could have finished the tournament. I expect to recover soon if I can just take it easy for awhile. Congratulations to Andi Young on her victory and to Joe Wright and Nicole Cazares on their second and third place finishes. I don't think I could have edged any of them, even if I'd been 100%. I should be back to normal at the October tournament.
