The PDGA web site says March 14th and 15th. Which is it? My partner's parole hearing is coming up soon and I want to give him a reason to be on his best behavior.

Once again, we are able to confirm that Randy's old Momma paid those teachers to let her boy graduate. ;):D;)
I was speaking of STATE doubles at Snow Farm, not WORLD doubles at Circle R. I read today where Houck has put that property up for sale. Therefore, I stronly suggest folks try to find a partner and head up to Wimberley.

On PDGA board. Mitch Justice posted that their final might have to move from Circle R as the ranch was up for sale. It is in the HOTT tour thread.
I wouldn't kid about such a thing. When a man who lives/loves disc golf design marries a woman with absolutely no interest in his love............

World Am Doubles is still on the schedule this year. And the circle R webpage is advertising the worlds biggest weekend.... Maybe some rich Disc golf benefactor will step up and save the property. That place is our own little Texas version of the Int. Disc Golf Center. They are horrible about updating their website though...well I guess great course design is a better trade off.

Mr. Houck will always continue to hold his events until the property is sold.........they have listed it before. Pray to God that the market isn't able to meet his price.
We all felt the same way about San Saba, RIP.

Wow, what a positive spin on the addition of the Mixed Doubles division at State Doubles. Are you and Jessica planning to play together?
Rest assured, I know of several teams that are not a part of your group, so expect some great fun for those who take that route.

I'm looking for a Grand Master partner! (That's 50 yrs or older for State Doubles this year...for all of you youngsters.)
I'm not very sure that I can play in Adv. Masters though...I think I can only swing down to Adv. Grand Masters.
If anyone knows of anyone looking for a partner, please let me know!

I actually did know that one, but I'd still like play the year in the same division. Last year I bounced back & forth a lot...that was my choice (probably not a good one), but that's what I did. I think now that I've reached the ripe old age of 50 it would be good for me to stay put in Grand Master.

I'm curious, what do you perceive as the benefit to playing exclusively in one division, or conversely what was the downside of bouncing back and forth last year?

One advantage of playing in the Grandmasters group is that we (as a group) tend to have better quality beer!!! That fact alone ought to boost ratings points a little bit.

So Larry, since Snow Farm is private property (I'm assuming) does that mean it's legal and within PDGA rules for those 21 and up to consume alcohol at this PDGA sanctioned event while playing?

I don't know, ERic...I don't really have any strategy to it...other than just competing against people my age, I guess. I guess the smartest thing to do (in a normal tourney) would be to compete in the biggest division in which you qualify to try to amass as many points as possible. If I ever got enough points to get the Worlds invitation, I'm not sure if I'd be able to go (depends on where & how much, etc.) but it would still be cool. If I read the PDGA site regarding Worlds correctly, it looks like Grand Masters only need 50 points! If I was lucky enough to get 12 points in a tournament again (like The Links tourney) four or five times this year, then who knows? Mostly though, it's the age thing I suppose. Not that I don't enjoy competing with C.J.! But it does make one humble getting shut out by youth (not to mention a great game...boy, that kid!). Oh...and by the way, Scott...I am teaming up with Larry this weekend.

Nope...but we share it before/after/between rounds! :D Still...there are a lot of un-sanctioned tourneys at the Snow Farm...I can certainly behave myself during the sanctioned times! :D
But in the last 4 or 5 years, the Woodlands crew has always supplied a keg or two of really tasty malted beverages...first from St. Arnold and now from Southern Star - which many of us would argue is even BETTER beer!
Check it out up there ERic...and notice the average age of the folks drinking Bud, Busch, and Lite(s) and notice the average age of the folks drinking the micro-brews.

That wind ate your lunch, my lunch, Scott's lunch....everybody's lunch! In fact, mere lunches weren't enough for this wind! This wind went on to eat everyone's dinner, snacks & even the dog treats....then it went on to guzzell up all the beer so people had to leave & go get more!!! This wind was an all-consuming wind....not to mention the fact that when we teed off Sunday morning it was about 35 degrees! Even with all that, I had a blast & would do it all again...although I'm glad, at least, it didn't rain.

Jessica & I made the cut for the Final 9 in Mixed which was better than I thought we might do. :) We were down four strokes to Sue & Jerry going into the Final 9 and got our butts whipped on those nine to finish eight back of them in the final standings.
C.J. & Glen tied for 3rd in INT. Rick & Randy cashed in REC (5th?).

CJ and Glen tied for third in Intermediate. We had the hot first round shooting 4 down in the crazy wind. We gave up some spots over the next two rounds, but held on with a strong final 9 to keep 3rd. But most of all we had a great time and I think that plenty of very talented players got to see a young teenager who was already playing as good as they were. He definitely earned the high praise we kept hearing as he hit putt after putt or clutch shot after clutch shot. Neither of us carried the load, the contributions to the team were very even.

Anybody that thought you teaming up with a "kid" might be a crazy thing to do learned what our gang here in Houston has known for a few months now....the Toy Cannon has all kinds of talent, but remains humble & adorable! May it remain so! Way to go everybody who made the Final Nine!!!

Okay,
So I've been watching this post evolve all day (I know, I need to get a life), and I too think that CJ is a rare talent. I look forward to seeing him on bigger stages in the future.
I would like to interject a little Toy Cannon humor into this post though. We all know Matt Stevens.... Saturday night he shows up in the TeePee and starts talking about his round. I know you will be shocked, but Matt was comfortably numb at the time, and we listened to him go on a 5 minute conversation about his...."strategy for playing CJ"! C'mon man!
So CJ, you apparently strike fear into the heart of Matt Stevens. Oh yeah, and watch out, now he is strategizing against you! LOL! I must say that we spent most of the evening and the next day tooling on ol' Stevens for his all important tips on taking on a 13 year old! I am greatly concerned he may be doing the same for Conall! LOL! Hope everyone got a good chuckle out of this, because the NSCG certainly did.
Great tournament as usual! Greater friends made it better!:D

CJ SchmeeJ!!!
Let's hear it for Rick "The Shotgun" Hopper. With a combined age of none of your damm business, we whooped up on the kids in the 2nd round in what could easily have been hurricane force winds. I'm no astrologist but it was pretty windy.
But when the stories were told around the campfires that night, they weren't about the Toy Cannon. . . well some of them were. . . most of them. . . all except the one about Rick that I told my Mom. But my Mom thought it was REALLY exciting. Either that or Dad goosed her again.
I saw Rick have more fun out there than I've seen him have before and that was BEFORE his birthday stripper showed up. It was his birthday wasn't it Susan? I don't think any man would lie about something like that just for a free stripper.
And if you all think CJ is good now, just wait until he grows into his discs

Hey Tom! What a great pleasure it was to get to meet you! I always hate coming home from a tournament and then going "Oh crap! Tom was there and I never even knew it or met him!"
It finally kicked in when you partner came in looking for a lost disc! Ha-ha! I hope you guys had a blast out there!

Geez DGJesus! Almost wet my pants reading that post of yours! Glad you weren't an astromer either...otherwise you'd have seen the end result coming in the stars! You've got time to study up on a little meteorology before the Jester league starts so that you can predict the amount of money that will be raining down on you when we play skins!

Okay...I finally managed to get the results posted up on the PDGA Tournament Results area! (It's always a BIG challenge trying to get doubles results posted in a singles-format oriented world! :D
You can click on this link and find them. http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=8717
Maybe I can explain a few things about how I uploaded them to head off most of the questions folks might have...
I had to keep the mixed doubles division in a division of their own. I chose to upload them under MA4 (Novice) division as it seemed the lesser of two evils - the other choice would've been one of the unused Female divisions.
I put Player 1's last name in the First Name field and Player 2's last name in the Last Name field. I used Player 1's PDGA number and so it lists that player's rating.
All divisions in all flites played their first round from the RED tees. After that, Advanced and Adv.Masters played from the Blue tees, Intermediates and Adv. Grandmasters played from the White tees and everyone else played from the Red tees.
I used a value of 56 for the par setting of all of the 18 hole configurations. I used a par value of 27 for the 9-hole Finals for B-flite and used a par value of 29 for the 9-hole Finals for the A-flite folks since they played hole #10 (1040').
I had one scoring error after the Finals which wasn't caught until yesterday. Seth (The World Infamous) Johnson and Mark McCoin actually shot a 28 ( 1 under par) for their Final-9 score which was transposed with another team. Seth and Mark actually ended up in sole possession of 4th place versus the tie at 4th place that I originally had them listed as. Oops! My bad guys! (Nearly 99.568% of the scores were entered correctly though!)
I echo all of the comments I've been reading from the players - it was a lot of fun in spite of the dreadful windy conditions. The dang wind completely blew my pull cart over twice on Saturday morning!
Maybe next year I'll try to get results posted up online between rounds...it will mean a lot of running back and forth between the Dog House and Randon's house...not to mention the challenges of trying to do it via a dial-up connection! Ha-ha! I've forgotten what a "modem" actually looks like any more! :D

AWWW - so me and Tim did get out of the cellar - it wasn't pretty thinking we got beat by team Cherry Bowles and didn't even get the pleasure of playing-a-round with them :D since that was our strategy from the start:D (pun intended)
We thought we played a perfect 1rst round to set us up on their card for the remaining rounds
We played white T's in round 1 - (that info will probably cost us 2 strokes and we'll be back in the cellar again:o)

Wow! What a whirlwind weekend for us!
We flew to Charlotte NC yesterday to visit Melissa's last, living blood relative who is terminally ill. We missed our return flight back to Houston and had to stay in a hotel that offered shuttle service and restaurants in walking distance. We found one and booked the first flight back this morning - 7:40am. Geez...with them being East Coast time, and the clock changes...we got up this morning at the equivalent of 4:30 Houston time! I called ahead and asked Thomas if he could possibly bring a pair of shorts for me - he did and they fit!!! Thanks Thomas!!!
I got caught up on all of the bookkeeping when I got back today and I'm thinking we're gonna be able to match the $1,000 donation we made to States last year!
We had 5 players the weekend of Texas State Am Doubles, 21 from the week before that and another 13 players today!
Mr Ed announced a "challenge" at the beginning of the match and requested that today's Mini winners donate their winnings the Texas State Fund. Many thanks for the extra $10 Ed! With your donation of your winnings, along with Alex Hughe's donation of his winnings back in April we now have $910 raised for Texas States.
I'm feeling good like we're really gonna make it again this year!
As always - many thanks to all of the great players that continue to support Texas States with their participation in The Commando Mini !!!
