Once again, we have a tit for tat going on the MB and I wanted to bounce some ideas of the membership.

I have a general policy, while many would view me as an SOB, I try not to take anyone who makes significant contributions to local tournaments, leagues, or the club to task. Why in the world would I ever want to disenfranchise anyone who has done something important for local disc golf? This includes openly criticizing any event that is run locally. If I have a real issue, I post it privately to the person in charge so they can address my concern in a private fashion. My goal is to help, not point out fault when it is unnecessary. Now, I don't typically include in this those who make few contributions, just ask Matt, whom regularly has to remind me that I'm an SOB.

I'd like the posters here to comment on this. Do you think it is a good policy for those who take leadership roles in local disc golf to find quieter venues to solve their differences? Do you like seeing it play out in public or would you rather that we conduct ourselves better than what we see on reality T.V.?

Please make your comments constructive, even if you think I'm being a dolt, if you really need to say so, PM me. Let's see if we can do better than those idgits in Washington D.C.

With Regards,

Lyle O. Ross

Hello Zipper,

I don't know you real well, but from what I do know of you, you are not an SOB. My opinion on criticizing local disc golf administration is thus. I personally welcome constructive criticism about anything that I help run because that is feedback on what I can improve on. If I disagree with the criticism, I will give a rebuttal. Doing this in a public forum allows more feedback from the disc golf community that frequents the message board. Either publically or privately is fine with me. Its hard to get feedback from players. You have to either do a survey or try to do it at players meetings and those are always time constrained. The main thing is to do the criticism constructively, not with bad humor, personal attacks, etc. I can also say the same thing for players that defend Birdshot on the message board. Keep it on topic and tasteful. Unfortanetly, discussions on the Message board can be like discussions with your significant other. It gets off track and turns personal quickly. The best time to talk to Birdshot staff in person about any issues is after the tournament is over. We usually have a meeting afterwards and would welcome players input. Most everything that Birdshot does is voted on by all staff members. Probably the same way HFDS does it. If you would like to come to our biggest meeting of the year, that would be after the MacGregor tournament Oct 24th. We will be doing scheduling for 2010, looking at all policies, pricing, etc. The players are our customers, they are #1 with us. Give us your opinion, we want to hear it. Do it politely. :)
