Too bad that property up on the Northside of town didn't get the Wilchek treatment or we would have had our own little Cameron East.
Which property? Spring Valley comes to mind

The course you speak of is 1 mile north of 249 on Spring Cypress Rd. behind Wynwood Church and school. It is 18 holes and is pretty dang nice already. Scott the designer and builder took myself, Chase, Mr. Ed, Jim Kelly, Stillwagon, and a host of other people out there this last Sunday. The course is rough and some of the holes will be changed from what Scott said. I felt like the course is on a great piece of land and had some really memorable holes. I don't remember the hole number but the one with the pin on a cliff was Awesome. Jim Kelly commented that "there wouldn't be much score seperation" for advanced level players. Personally I felt that the course was full of potential and could, in the future rival Spring Valley and Oak Meadows. If you head out there be wary of skeeters as this course runs along a few streams and is full of them right now. Other then that I gotta give props to Scott for designing and building one hell of a new course.

So now we are talking about 2 different courses.?? Is this springcypress course open to public and not sure how to get a mile north of 249 via spring cypress?

If you are coming out 249 from the Beltway, exit Spring Cypress............and turn right. LOL :D Down a ways on the right.
On Spring Cypress between 249 & Old Louetta Rd.
Heard lots of good stuff about this one.

If you are planning on playing during the day M---F before 5:00PM be sure to check in at the school office for a pass. There is a cop on duty and he will challange you and ask you to leave. You are OK if you check in first.

He'll challenge us? CTP, 9-hole or a full 18?? :D:D:D

Yes, take 249 north to Spring Cypress, turn right on Spring Cypress and Windwood is about 1/2 miles East on Spring Cypress on your right just past the first traffic light you come to (Huffsmith-Korhville).
As Mr. Ed said the course IS open to the public, however they have a school and like any school, every visitor must check in at the front office upon arrival onto the property Monday thru Friday before 5pm....This is mandatory..... the sheriff will escort you off the property immediately if you do not sign in first.....It's not too much to ask really... The course is also closed on Sundays until 12:00 noon
The course is in it's infancy right now, please understand that, There are no permanent markers yet for the T-boxes, the map you can get at the front desk will help tremendously in navigation.
Sometimes you have to clear it and play it before it reveals itself to you... That is what has happened here, we really like the course as it sits, however the course will change very soon, so enjoy what we've done, but expect it to be different in a month or two.
I must say Doug Rogers of Windwood church and myself designed and built this course together and if it weren't for the help of friends like David Miller from this board and several others who are not on the board, this course would not be playable right now.
Please be patient on the permanent T-box markers, about 6 holes are going to be enhanced. One completely removed (#11) and one new hole built.
Thanks for the props on hole #8:D that was my signature hole, I'm very proud of that hole. Thank you
I've got a vision that will take a few other of the curent holes and turn them into awesome, extremely memorable holes as well. We are going to put some serious legs on this course with the enhancements next month that I think even Scooter would approve of and give the course a thumbs up
The course is playable - not finished - we'll hold off on a grand opening and official annoucement until it's officially finished, there is a lot to do there still.

This Windwood DGC sounds excellent. I heard about it on Saturday at the MacGregor Tourney and the word was good. Can't wait to get out there myself and play a round.
With the addition of this course, 111 disc golf baskets have been added to the Houston area (75 miles from 77002) since the beginning of the year (and lost two at Burke-Crenshaw), including four new full 18 hole courses.
Let's try to out do this next year. :)

wonder if it is possible to get something redesigned at mason park, or Herman brown park by on the east side of town. This park has its own maintenance store front on wallisville. there is plenty of room, but lots of soccer going on. I watched one day and they play some serious soccer, but I think there is plenty of space to work with and the park has a new overpass going in next to it, resulting in loss of tennis and basket ball courts. Maybe a discgolf course can go in as it is much cheaper than aforementioned sports areas.

I will be installing T-box marker post and bricks indicating the front of the T-Box's in the morning, for how the course exist currently, so it can be navigated easier.
With that said, I want to get the changes made to the course ASAP. If there is anyone on this board that likes getting out in the woods with a chainsaw, big pruning shears, shovels and weedeaters that's wants to help, just send me a PM.
I think we can go from "Nice Course" to "WOW...Damn Nice Course" very quickly. I'll be there Saturday morning (Tomorrow) at 7am if anyones wants to work instead of play in the muck...:D
BTW....this course drains very well, even in this rainy season we are having...update...17 is under water but actively draining, we got over 4" rain last night...all things considered, losing one hole (temporarily) isn't bad with that much rain

Our bridge going across the ravine got washed about 150ft downstream... Big big bummer, we are looking for all the help we can get next Saturday morning to help get it back in place. Please if your free next Saturday come out and help, the course has drained very well and 17 if the 18 holes are high and dry.

I played it yesterday and was able to play all but 16 and 17. We could have played 16, but didn't feel like crossing the stream to get to it. 17 would also be playable if you had galoshes. :)

Just to let everyone know that I will be having a work day at the Windwood course (can this course get it's own page soon?) on Thursday from 11-3:30 (followed by a round at 3:30). Here's a map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=30.013596,+-95.579832+(Windwood+Presbyterian+DGC)&ie=UTF8&z=17&iwloc=A
I'm doing this through CyFair College and our disc golf club. However as part of a club at the college we let all the clubs know so I'm hoping that means more people will come. I thought we might as well let everyone here know too. The more bodies the better. If you're coming bring some work gloves and some bug spray. There will be water, restrooms, and plenty of work available. :)
PS And don't forget to check in with the school when you get there so everyone is official.

Played the course on Sunday. It's draining pretty nice, still some water on 17 though. Did lose a disc on 2 in the thorny area on the left side of the fairway about 100 ft from the pin. Anyone finds it I'd be grateful.

I am going to be on Vacation next week, and I would love to play this course, but I would like a guide, so if anyone is going to be off sometime during the week next week, and can show me the course, that would be great.

I am most likely going to play this one at some point next week. It is pretty much the closest 18 to me. I'd be happy to show you around the course. Bring a lot of bug spray. They are vicious right now. Please remember this course is not by any means considered "Finished" It is considered "playable" at this point. All the T-boxes except (1&17) have post in the ground to mark the box area and there are bricks in the ground to mark the front of the T-boxes.
MAKE SURE YOU GET A MAP AT THE FRONT DESK WHEN YOU SIGN IN. It will help tremendously.
Several holes are being re-designed, The word is getting out and people are begininng to show up more and more on Saturday mornings to help build a great course. It's an open invitation to all to bring your work gloves and be a part of building a great course on the Northwest side.
I'm taking this Saturday off from doing course work and playing at Shawshank (it's time for a break).
Again it's Playable.......not "Finished"

Hopefully they can make it...I know how much they like to "mark as played" on DGCR :D not to mention the fact that it's a great course and the last Birdshot Singles tournament for the year. Not to be missed...and I am done thread drifting.

I keep telling Steve he should. I would love to, but we're hitting Sea World this weekend with the kiddos and the grandparents. One of these days though I'm going to make it out there... sorry for the thread jack, blame it on Patrick.
Back to the Windwood channel. I'm playing on Thursday at 3:30 if anyone else wants to come.

Steve made a respectable showing at the Great Escape back in May (http://hfds.org/vbull/showpost.php?p=6396&postcount=12). Maybe he could join the big INT crowd for this one. :)

And I had a heck of a good time doing it as well. I love Shawshank, but alas - I will not be able to make it up as I had once hoped. But don't worry Patrick - I already have that one "marked as played" ;).
Oh well maybe I'll be able to attend the next Great Escape! Hope you guys have a good time!

I cannot believe how popular this course is becoming. Saturday while hanging out at the #1 teebox waiting for a couple of stragglers in our group of 6 to get there (about 30 minutes) I counted 4 groups of 5 players each and 4 groups of 2 all start off.
After the new year we are looking at starting up a regular mini possibly on the Saturday mornings that Birdshot is NOT running a tournament. Our goal will be to raise money for concrete tboxes. As the days get longer in the spring we'll run a midweek mini in the evenings or possibly a "Friday night lights" regular mini.

Also, Windwood has a great area for demonstrations and clinics. The church has already talked about hosting some of those. If anyone has any suggestions on which kind of clinics they would like to see let us know.
