Birdshot will be hosting a mini on Saturday, February 13th at this all but forgotten course on the east side! Chuck has been in contact with the parks department on this one & we've been told that they will fix the baskets that need work (and replacing one) and will get posts in the ground for the tees in the next couple of weeks. That remains to be seen of course, but we shall give them the benefit of a doubt for now & keep our fingers crossed! If they don't get it done, we still want to have the mini anyway so that hopefully the local community might accidentally be watching & get curious & ask the city to revitalize the course for them! We would bring out a temp for the basket that's totally missing, but probably play the two where the pan sits six inches off the ground just for grins! This is actually a cool course....too bad it's been neglected...hopefully that is about to change! See website for details!

played a tournament with the basket ON the ground and then two baskets were hanging from trees. You shoot over a river and taken across via some shanty that floats. Play the green and you are taken back across the river. The basket sitting on the ground required a double take and some yoga to get a good putt on it.

Good news, people!!! The parks department followed through with the basket repairs & cementing in the tee posts, so the course is officially once again playable! Chuck & I just got back from putting in bricks for the shorts...not an easy course, for me anyway!:o But we're definitely in good shape for the mini next weekend, so come join us & check it out!

great news, EAST SIDE disc golf is very much needed.
I really hope DGC can work something out at Herman Brown Park, they have fishing there too.

Thanks to ERic for putting the bug in Chuck's ear which sparked a meeting with the parks department which consequently brought this little nine-hole course back to life! Maybe people will start playing it again & the baskets won't be used as BBQ pits any more! Sorry we scheduled this for the same day as Tom Yocky's Valentine's Tourney...but if you're not heading to Research Park for doubles, please come out & join us in the morning for this event. It sounds like we might have quite a few players for a mini...it might be a little wet, but the sun's supposed to come out tomorrow (cue music from Annie) and I'm gonna be ready for some disc golf! See you there!!

Directions from the south side.....take 45 North to Woodridge...take a right...take your first left at the light at Garland.....Garland turns into 75th street down around Lawndale....keep going...keep going...yes, you're almost there....go through the light at Tipps (first park entrance) and the next light take a right into the main parking lot. If you're coming from the north, there might be a shorter way to get there than going all the way to Woodridge. If there's an exit for Griggs, take a left on Griggs & that should take you up to 75th street (I think)...take a left & follow same directions!

The course has a lot of elevation change so it should drain well except for maybe the #4, #5 area. Haven't been over there since last Sunday so not sure how its doing right now.

We had a great group of 26 stout players this morning! It never did warm up during the round, but I think everybody had a good time...and congratulations to Suemac for beating Sam for the CTP by four inches! Please go out to Mason & play some more so the course might stay in somewhat better shape than it has been the last few years!

I think we had 29 players in total. We had some last minute additions just before we sent out cards.

Mason Park is tough. It reminded me of many of the more frustrating holes out at Spring Valley. The course demands excellent disc control or your score will suffer. Our highest sores of the day were two pars by Paul and Tim playing advanced.

Wow! I had a great time yesterday, and would suggest this course to anyone wanting to work on their game. I felt like I worked on everything, using a variety of discs in my bag. Anyone heading to tight courses out of town might want to give this baby a try.

This was a very nice course. It made you respect the original drive because if you got off the fairway you needed to be creative. I like this course a lot considering it was only a 9 hole with alts. I was sad it didnt warm up. I dont like playing in the cold.

By the way, Sue beat out Griff for that CTP. I was close but it was between Griff and Sue. Nice shots.

Thanks for planting the seed, ERic! I also want to thank Matt Hall for coming out to play on his birthday, only to have everybody that maybe could have competed with him chicken out!;) He & Emily Lawrence decided to go ahead & start the Mardi Gras/birthday party early instead...but at least they came out to check things out! I tried to shame some people up, Matt...but to no avail! In the future, don't anybody bitch that Matt never comes to local tourneys...when he does, nobody wants to "man-up"!!! Everybody had a good time, though.....we'll do it again at Burke/Crenshaw this Saturday!

Yeah, Lou....there were 3 or 4 guys that could've probably at least kept up with Matt. I was trying to tell them that somebody would at least come in second! I guess that $10 difference is a little steep for them...otherwise it seems like someone would've gone for it! I still give Matt kudos for showing up though...I'm just sorry there were no takers!

Yeah, and you beat yourself real good!!! We didn't think you wanted to compete against Matt, though....;) Matt, could've stayed & played in a lone division if he had wanted to...but I can't really blame him for leaving when there was partying to be done for the Birthday Boy!

Dang, didn't know at the time that's why Matt left. I would donated my $20... I mean it was his birthday and all.

Now that the course has been refurbished and folks have had a chance to play a few rounds, it would be great if Mason Park could get some new reviews on DGCR. Currently the course has a 1 out of 5 rating and it deserves better. I uploaded a map of the course and new photos to DGCR today and added my review. Let's see some other reviews give the park the attention it deserves.

May have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I never heard any challenges made. I wouldn't have minded donating to your Mardi Gras fund

Right there with ya, I would have ponied up $20 for the chance to play with Matt. Plus that way I could have got my disc back LOL ;), by the way Matt you can keep the XS I don't throw the thing.
