Hey guys,
I am from Rocky Mount, NC and I am coming to Houston for the week to see some family. I know when we are down there we are going to be playing quite a bit of disc golf. Or at least I am. Do you guys have any tips on where I need to play or info. During the 16-23rd, are there any weekly doubles, singles or any type of tournament going on? Any info would help.
TY
Oh yeah, I was not sure where to post this thread, this section looked like it will be fine for the time being.

well welcome to htown. you will see on this site alot of info you will need. the parks are so spread out and everywhere that it would be best to post a location/area of town you will be in. in your time here surely someone will hook up with you. hit windwood if you do any.

Oak Meadows is playable, or do you mean not respecting the rules that say no trespassing?

yeah for someone coming in from out of town they need an accurate heads up on what to wxpect at Oak Meadows.. It's private with security monitoring the course. Monitored more heavily on weekends obviously, but you still run the risk of driving all the way out there on a weekday (if your going to disrespect the private course rule) and being met by security and turned away, asked to leave or whatever else they wish to do with you, within the rights of the tresspassing laws...IMO there are now other options on the northside that make this course not worth the risk anymore....just my .02
I use to sneak out there occasionally, but never felt at ease the whole time I was there....

I work right down the road and don't go there, I would not sneak on to anyone's property, and hope others would not disrespect me in the same manner. Do unto others applies here imo.

Teejay, if you wanted to play Oak Meadow, legally, there is a good chance that I can play on Mon, Tue, or Wed afternoon. As a resident of the neighborhood the park is in, I can bring guests. Unfortuneately I am busy that weekend and can't make it Saturday or Sunday.
If any other HFDS members wanted to join then they are more than welcome. Just send me a PM.

That's really funny because I'm headed up to Charlotte for that same period of time. I'll keep an eye on NC for you if you watch out for Houston for me!

So I am here in houston and I am planning to play The Jim Mozola dgc, i guess its the one with downtown as the back drop. I am planning to play both of the Tom Bass Parks and hopefully macgregor over saturday and sunday. Not sure if these are the local names for these four courses but those names are the ones that are listed on pdga.com course directory.
From what I understand, the Tom bass parks are the more challenging ones? Let me know.

Also, I am staying in Houston(don't ask me where, I have no idea) and I visited the woodlands thursday. I noticed they have a couple of courses down there. From the little of the woodlands that I saw it looked very nice. Would it be worth it to check those courses out?

Spring Valley (5 mins out of The Woodlands) would be your best bet. 28 holes, pro shop, etc.
A fun, quick course would be Bear Branch and it's about 10-15 mins from Spring Valley in the middle of the woodlands.
Terramont is a fun 9 hole in the back of the woodlands that plays around a large hill (biggest elevation you will find)
McDade is only a 20 min drive from the woodlands courses and is def worth playing along w/ Spring Valley
PM me if you're interested in catching a round this week somewhere in the area
DONT PLAY TOM BASS!!! Spring Valley would be your best bet for a challeneg. It mixes 9 400'-1000' holes on a golf course w/ 18 tightly wooded finesse holes

Tom Bass isn't bad, it just helps (a lot) if you have a cannon to score well.

I played the front or the new 18 hole course at Jack brooks. That was probably the hardest course I have ever played. It was ridiculous. I ended up shooting like a 68 on that course. I was pretty disappointed how I played until I heard what everyone else shot along side of me and then I did not feel as bad. We did not play the back 18 because the mosquitoes were pretty bad and there was no air moving at all; but from what I understand the back 18 is a little easier. Any input on that course would be cool.

if you were only able to play a few courses in Houston in a limited amount of time, would Tom Bass even be in your top 5?

TeeJay, if you want to play a 100% wooded course , send me a pm with you contact info, and I will be happy to show you around the Kingwood (River Grove Park) course. 90% of the course is in the shade. I can play weekday afternoons from 3pm-6pm.

Gulf Meadows is way easier than Cedar Hills at Jack Brooks Park. Way less mosquitoes as well.
