I'm trying out some of the new features of this new message board and one of the cooler features that we didn't have before is the ability to create polls.
Create a new thread, or reply to one (I think) and way-down underneath the submit button is a section/area called Additional Options.
Select the Post-A-Poll option there and set how many questions you want to ask.

I found another way to add a poll to an existing thread.
When you are reading a post notice the (changing) menu bar at the top of the reading pane area. It lists a pull-down menu selector called "Thread Tools" - click on it. Another little pop-up menu displays a selection there called "Add Poll to this thread."
Make sure you check out this feature...it has a lot of other handy selections available too! :D

Can we have a thread for all the local courses or can we have one for other courses?

There should now be a forum for all the local courses. Enjoy.

One of the many cool things about this new software is watching the number of registered users grow every day.
Today's magic number (so far) is 62 users. It's amazing to see how many folks register for this message board even though we don't often see posts from a great many of these readers!
* * * * *
Don't place a great deal of credence in that Most Online number though...I think the software is counting the various "web-crawlers" as users and I saw an instance the other night where there were 5 of those things scanning the posts...I guess.
DpDiscer: I think you in particular might be interested in looking for an option when you start a new thread, an option that allows you to specify "keywords" that the indexing services (web-crawlers) will pick up for their indexes. I suggest something like "disc golf tournaments" and "Houston Texas" - but I've really never been selling anything or interested in getting big "hit counts" on our website.

Another little tid-bit of information it shows us too:
Active Users: 62 <---- If memory serves right, this is saying that out of the 62 registered users of this message board, all 62 of them have visited it in the last 24 hours! (It might be 48 hours but I can't remember where it was that I saw that setting.)

Looks like we reached a milestone today...
With Mr. Springer's registration, we've now reached 100 registered users on this message board!
I don't know how anyone else feels about it, but I'm very pleased with the results of this software. I do occasionally get a notification that there has been a mySQL database error, but it seems to clear itself up in about 2 minutes and everything goes back to normal again.

vBulletin rocks!

Our friends over at discgolfbirmingham.com have used vBulletin for a couple of years now. I've always been a fan of vBulletin since day one when the B'ham crew first started using it. It's easy for people who know little about different softwares.

Uh oh...
Maybe I spoke too soon.
Looks like we had a hit by a SPAMMER from Burma this afternoon. He/she posted a nonsensical message under the Wassup area. I "soft-deleted" the thread which should hide it from the average user.
Eric - please help me keep an eye out for these clowns. I'll work on locating the userid associated with the post and deleting it tonight or over the weekend.

Yeah, I deleted/banned another SPAM attack a couple days ago.

Thank you for taking care of that Eric!
Well...at least it isn't a full-time job keeping up with those yokels like it used to be...if that is any consolation. :o

I'd like to ask everyone to keep on the look-out for spammers.
We've had 3 or 4 new message board users register lately which look suspect to me.
One of the ones I banned and deleted yesterday had actually registered last week but laid dormant for a week before posting up his porno-spam.
I've seen a number of questionable user-ids register in the last week. Please send me an e-mail or PM if you see something that needs to be deleted or a user-id that needs to be banned.
I'll check in with VBulletin and see if they've got some updates that I should apply.

Larry, I just noticed the time change hasn't happened here (not that it's a big deal)....if it's not automated is there something you have to do?

I don't think that I can do anything about it Billy...it might be a case of the hosting service needing to reboot the server we are being hosted on.
There are settings to convert GMT time (which is what our server uses) to Central Time, but I'm pretty sure that I enabled a selector to automatically adjust it for daylight time. I'll double-check it tonight and then contact the hosting service if it still isn't right.
Thanks B-man! :D

Hmmm...I just checked my last post, and it seems to have the correct time listed on it. (2:26pm) so it's looking okay to me.
Is it fixed then?

I keep seeing new members at the bottom of the home page....but the number of total members keeps dropping....Do people become non members if they don't post in a certain time frame?
Just curious thanks...great board BTW

There are about 4-5 new accounts registered on the site per day by SPAMMERS. I try to delete them before they can get through with their worthless postings. Hopefully, Larry will soon install some of the vBulletin extensions/add-ons that will help curb that.

I moderate another forum and we have had a huge increase in membership over the last month as well thanks to spammers. If you find something that works well let me know. I'd love to implement it on our board as well. Right now all I can do is ban them by username and ip address.

I've got a decent list of banned IP's working. Is your other forum also vBulletin?

We use SMF. I'm not the superAdmin either. I just get to give my 2 cents. :)
