Come on out to Tom Bass Park on Sunday, January 2nd after getting all of the hangover out of your system for a fundraising tournament to help U.S. Masters & Texas States with course expenses for our part of the Texas Swing next spring! Chuck had this great idea earlier this year to play Bass backwards & call it BassAckwards, so we are ready to bring his little disc golf fantasy to life! Entry fees will be $20 per player with half going to Masters & States expenses & the other half to CASH payout (yes, this one will NOT be sanctioned). We'll start taking sign-ups around 7:30 and try to tee off by 9:00....it won't be necessary to pre-register either, just plan on showing up to play & donate some money to help defray expenses for both Shawshank & Jack Brooks course work. These donations will NOT be going into payout for either tournament, but rather to help the Dufranes & the Brooks Bros./HFDS pay or help repay for much needed and/or much already done work on both courses...which are both hosting a couple of our sport's biggest Pro events next year! And besides...haven't you always wondered what it would be like to play those courses BassAckwards?

FYI - There is a chance that DG Consultants will want to come out & vend for this one...if so, then AM payout will be in plastic...if not, then cash (obviously). I'll post up for sure as soon as we know....stay tuned!

I just posted a course map for the ʇuoɯןıʍ and ןןǝʍod courses (http://houstonbirdshot.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=138:12-bassackwards-fundraiser&catid=34:upcoming-events&Itemid=41) on HoustonBirdshot.com. Check out the big 1,000' hole.
Billy and I played both courses today, I shot a 67 on ןןǝʍod and a 70 on ʇuoɯןןıʍ and was having a pretty decent game.

Mando markers that are maybe 3' tall are generally not a good idea.

I'm a little confused here Billy.
If it isn't going to be sanctioned, then why on earth would the players want their payout in DGC credits or plastic? The only time it makes sense to do an Am merchandise payout is if it is PDGA sanctioned...or if you are the ones supplying the plastic.
Help clarify this for me, will ya Billy?

But if you pre-register before Chris can change the Birdshot website that says "CASH payout" then you're grandfathered into cash payout.

It mostly has to do with the fact that DGC is our title sponsor, Larry...and if they were interested in vending we feel like we should give them that option. It's no different than them vending for you guys who run the HFDS leagues....aren't the AMs payed in plastic for HFDS leagues? They're not PDGA sanctioned either..same difference. Chris has already posted on our website that it will be cash payout, though...so that's probably what it will end up being.

The post actually stands about 30' tall from the tee but 27' of the post is obscured because it's under the amphitheater's hill.

When you start throwing your disc(s) under or through the hill then you can count the post at 30'... until then it's a 3' tall mando marker located at a perspective from which the players throwing will have a very difficult time determining if a disc in the air crosses on the correct side of the mando. It's inviting controversy.

Alright peoples! I just got off the phone with Andi & DGC assured me that we have their blessing for cash payout...which all of our minis have always been. There have been a couple of non-sanctioned events where DGC vended for us, but only a couple. Andi & Don will be there, however, with lots of stuff for anyone who might need to spend some Christmas money on some plastic! Hopefully lots of people will show up so we can give another generous donation to Masters & States course funds!

I agree. With the loss of critical trees on basic Willie, the course has lost some of its appeal. Bassack Willie takes better advantage of the existing trees and other obstacles.
We discussed putting in permanent tee markers for the bassack course!

Yeah, I guess there was not much anything diffrerent we could do with backwards Powell...but The Wilmont was a total blast for Chris & I to arrange! For those of you who venture out there during the next week to check it out, hopefully the flags will still be there. On The Powell, yellow flags mark the boxes for the odd numbered holes & orange for the evens...the first tee shoots to basket 18 & is located a little futher up & to the right of 18's normal tee. The paint was still there yesterday too...your first shot reads 1-18 (which means first hole to 18's basket)...second one 2-17, etc.....yellow, orange, yellow orange, etc....hopefully you can find all the tees. The Wilmont has yellow flags for odds & blue flags for evens....first shot starts kinda near the corner of the parking lot to basket 18 & take it from there. The few of us that have played it now really think that the course plays better this way...come out on January 2nd & see what you think!

The rain we had last week soaked up really well at both courses...hardly wet at all. Let's hope that the rain we have in the next couple of days soaks up too! Right now the weatherman sez bright & sunny this Sunday...might be a little chilly, though. We'll start on the Tnomliw course in the morning, so meet up at that parking lot....registration opens at 7:30 & we'd like to get started by 9:00, so try to be there by 8:30 if you can! This thing is going to be a blast, people...try to make it out if you can & help to support those two World Class PDGA events we have coming up this year right in our own backyard!

Chuck & I went out to the park yesterday after playing Mason to check out the courses. Chuck walked the Powell & I walked the Willie....I had to move about four of the tees only slightly due to the water and/or mud...one of the tees (12th tee shooting to basket #7) I had to move drastically from where we originally put it (it WAS back in the near the woods along the bayou shooting out....all that was under about a foot of water!). The 10 & 11 baskets on the Willie are pretty wet now also, so be prepared to get a little wet tomorrow...I'll definitely be wearing the sexy boots! The weather should be beautiful like today, so please come out in the morning to get signed up & play these courses like you've never played them before....and remember this is to raise more course maintenance funds for Masters & States! Sign-ups start at 7:30...ends at around 8:30...we'll try to tee off at 9:00...meet at the Wilmont parking lot for the morning round....and please try to bring some small bills (I forgot to go to the bank!!!)....Happy New Year & see you in the morning!

I played 20*F in Ohio last week and I wish someone had shoveled the teepads at that one... runups in 6+" of snow add a new dimension to the game.

I ran a Bing search last spring and picked up a couple of pairs of SealSkins for around $12 each. While I don't think that Seal Skins work as well as GoreTex, at a quarter of the cost of GoreTex, I can replace them more frequently and still come out ahead.
