Here is another property we might wish to examine for its' disc golf possibilities. In about a month there will be a meeting of the Near Northwest Management District. The City of Houston has just acquired the property and the Harris County Flood Control District is involved. I know that I do not have time to spearhead anything regarding this property. I know that disc golf could be a part of any plan to utilize this piece of property. I saw the article in "The Leader" this week and I thought I should bring it to the clubs' attention. Certainly there could be one of those fantastic "day of" courses set up to familiarize people in the disc golf community with the property.

Peace,

Dennis

Where is this area? Can you provide a map link?

From the Minutes:

Inwood DGC Marshall advises that city is interested in additional courses at city parks and green spaces like old Inwood Golf Course. Steve D. says that Innova has 9 baskets that would be used for a public park in Huntsville area but no space available. Will follow-up with Steve D. to see if could be used for Inwood.

Is anyone following up on this? This really sounds like an excellent opportunity. Inwood had three 9-hole golf courses, any one of those could hold a decent 18-hole DG course that would likely rival anything else in the city limits.

I believe there have been proposals submitted and things are moving along.

Good to know.

I went and walked part of it today. Lots of space out there to work with. It would be better with more trees, but with all the space, I see tons of potential.

So has the HFDS Club presented a proposal regarding Inwood, or is this a case of an individual acting on his/her own?

I'm not aware of any official club activity regarding this newly acquired park.

hmmm...

At which meeting was this brought up/discussed at Derek?

I would want to review any proposal for a course going in my neighborhood and I just don't recall hearing this come up at any recent meetings. So where is this proposal? What meeting did this happen at?

Does the club have some kind of layout in mind? Or are we not that far into discussions at this point?

There are three 9-hole loops out there. Which one(s) are we interested in?

I walked a good part of one of the 9-hole loops (the one north of the clubhouse and west of Antoine Dr.). Earlier I said it could hold 18 holes, now I believe it could hold 24-27 depending on the what the design goals are. In fact a 27-hole rec course and an 18-hole Tournament course could easily coexist in a single design if planned out correctly.

As I said earlier it would make a much better piece of DG real estate with more trees. OB could also be used to improve the land. Any chance of having the city work in additional retention ponds or planting more trees? (USDGC style rope is just so tacky on a permanent course running through people's back yards). The existing ponds are extremely low, would the city re-fill these? Or do they naturally hold more water and are just low due to the drought?

There were several informal looking "No Trespassing" signs around the clubhouse. Does this mean the parking lot is (and would remain) off limits, or is that something put up by the HOA that the city is not enforcing? Does the city own the clubhouse as well, or just the greenspace?

There's some mildly interesting information about the city's ownership of the property towards the bottom of this page (http://www.ifcia.com/node).

The Restricted Property (golf course property) may only be used for non-profit recreational purposes, including, without limitation, a golf course or other sports facilities, community center, bicycle trails, pedestrian trails, parks and natural open space, as well as for drainage of adjacent property and storm detention, and for no other purpose.”

Many layouts in mind, these things have already been worked out. City owns the clubhouse and parking. Send me a PM if you want to come to a walkthrough sometime
