Birdshot (Chuck DP Discer, Billy Birdshot) and Disc Golf Surfers (Jake Walsdorf) are teaming up to start a league on Tuesday nights, flex start 4:30 - 6:00. 1st Tuesday is August 19th. The guidelines document is too large to attach here, so if you want all the details, go to Birdshot's website www.houstonbirdshot.com (http://www.houstonbirdshot.com) or see the posting on the course board. All cash like the minis. See ya there on the 19th.

Unfortunately Jake will not be able to help out this six weeks...he's already got another obligation on Tuesday evenings. As far as I know, Chuck & I will be out there this afternoon...Chuck should be there by 4:30 & I'll get there ASAP after work. Flex should be between 4:30 & 6:00....$20 for the whole six weeks....you get to drop your two lowest scores (or miss two weeks, whatever it turns out to be)....hope to see some people out there!

Jack Brooks League kicked off with 3 players today. For results, go to Birdshot's website at www.houstonbirdshot.com (http://www.houstonbirdshot.com). Go to the additional links. It was rainy:mad:

It's not too late to join this league...you get to drop your worst two scores (so those who didn't show yesterday...that's one!) and we still have five more weeks to go. Come on out next week! I'll actually have to miss that one, so there's one for me!

Hold everything folks! I talked to Jake and he said that Thursday would be better for him and more people play out at Jack Brooks on Thursday than Tuesday. So Thursday it is. Tomorrow will be the kick off for Summer 2 league. Attachment is too long.

Jake is in Utah this week & it looks like it might be raining again this afternoon, but I'll be there to meet Chuck anyway. If nobody shows up, maybe we can try to kick it off again next Thursday. If we get a few this afternoon, then great...we'll see.

Raining pretty hard in Clear Lake right now (1:15)....we'll see what's happening in Hitchcock this afternoon. By the way...last flex should start by 5:30 if you want to make sure you have time to finish before dark (or the park guys kicking you out!).

The first week of Jack Brooks league is in the books. For the results go to Birdshot's website www.houstonbirdshot.com (http://www.houstonbirdshot.com) and go to the Additional links. The flex start is not chiseled in stone. If Billy, Jake, or I are out on the course when you come by on Thursday to play league, just grab a scorecard from the mailbox, play, and put the scorecard back in the mailbox and I will pick it up later. 3 to 5 players on a scorecard. If you haven't paid yet, just find Billy, Jake or myself and give us your $20 plus $1 for the Ace Pot (optional).:p
It has been wet and misquitos out at Brooks.:(

Man, I go away for a week and all hell breaks loose. Rain, mosquitoes and a league starting up again at Brooks. Looking forward to Thursdays once again. And a chance to dominate...;)
Last year we had between 20 to 30 players at our weekly events. I invite everyone to come play and tell your friends too. Especially if they play for cash...:D

Welcome home, Jake! Now, if you can just go out to the course in the next couple of days & kill every one of those little bloodsuckers...I personally would be most grateful. Hopefully word is out now & all you Brooks people & anybody willing to head south on Thursdays will show up en masse! The more the merrier....and more hands to slap those pesky skeeters!

I called the parks dept. related to spraying and grass cutting.
The Lake Duke area holes was not as bad as the original course yesterday. And the golfing was awesome.

I understand that the grass was cut and the county sprayed the area from the air. Not sure that will help much with the millions of skeeters that were out there Sunday.
League play is no like Donkey Kong. Come beat the pro if can. Don't forget to bring your entry fee and ace pot money. I'll be there around 4pm if anyone wants to get in an early warm-up session.

Cool, Jake! I'm by myself at work today so I'll be lucky to get out there by 5:30! I told Chuck that he'd better wait on me....looking forward to some disc golf & skeeters (maybe not so much the skeeters!). I think jeans & a long sleeve shirt might be in order...I'd rather be hot than eaten! Talkatchalater...Billy

I guess Sam, Cidro, Beau and John didn't sign up for league; cause I counted at least 12 to 13 players on the course.
The key to playing when mosquitos are bad is limiting the number of players on the card at 3. That really helped things move fast.
Boo and Ynfante shot the hot rounds, although Mr. Solis shot a nice 49...
It's still not too late to get in on the league you lurkers out there... Come get some!!!

Those guys signed up for league, Jake....Chuck meant we had an additional nine players apart from the five of us that started last week. If you want to play this six week period then you would have to start this Thursday (hurricanes permitting) and you would have to count all the next four games. Your two worst scores that you could drop will have been used up already for not playing the first two weeks....but you guys that always shoot well anyway should have no problem with that. If not, we will be starting up another six-week league as soon as this one's over & you can get in it next time around.

I have Michael Solis at 50. I will bring the scorecard with me. He had 6 birdies and 2 bogeys. 2 stroke penalty for wrong score:eek: No, this is not PDGA. No stroke penalty. I will have to repost the results since I had Cody Cruthers as an expert instead of advanced. Next week might be a drop because of Gustav. There can be up to 2 drops each league for weather and/or holidays. Any more than that and we will extend the league:(

Looks like we're on for week three tomorrow....Chuck usually gets there by 4:30, but you can always grab a scorecard out of the box by #1 & get started if you want. Remember...at least one other league player with you on a card to verify scores....we really thought there should be at least two other league players playing with you, but that doesn't always work out. After this six weeks, I think we're probably going to move this thing to Sunday afternoons...we'll have to move it to the weekend in a few weeks anyway when we lose daylight at 5:30. Also I am sure we'd get more players then...see you guys tomorrow!

I e-mailed Chuck this morning & told him league doesn't seem like such a good idea this afternoon. Last night we were out there playing & thinking Ike was going to head further south...doesn't seem to be the case now. Oh sure, we could probably play today...but mandatory evacuations all around plus the fact that many of us (myself included) need to prepare for the storm doesn't leave much room for a nice round of disc golf. Good luck everybody!

I think that anybody that does not play league tonight is a mama's boy.:p Just kidding! If the park is open and you go by and play tonight, hold on to the card until next week. Honesty system. This will be a drop week for everybody that does not play. I would play if the park is open and mandatory evacuation is not on for my zip code, but that looks doubtful. See yall next Thursday (unless another storm brews up quick)

Well, I guess last Thursday was a drop for me...how many people showed up anyway? Jake, are you okay? If the park is open this afternoon I'm pretty sure Chuck & I will head out there after I get off work today to check out the situation for Thursday League. I am jonesing to play!!!

09-16-2008, 02:55 PM
We can't get through to the parks department, so we're betting it's still closed today. Burke-Crenshaw is open so we're going over there this afternoon around 5 or 5:15 if anyobody wants to join us. Chuck will probably try to check on Brooks again tomorrow so we can figure out whether or not we'll be able to have league Thursday night. We'll keep you posted...

Chuck & I are planning on trying to get into Brooks this evening...I think a couple of the usual gang "snuck" in last night (one of the gates was apparently open). We're hoping the park is open finally today...if not, we might try to "sneak" in as well so we can evaluate the course & determine if we're going to be able to play league tomorrow.

We had a pretty good turnout for league last night...and thanks to Tu for bringing out the chainsaw & attacking the bee-tree! We voted last night & decided that we would play on both Tuesday & Thursday next week to make up for last week because of Ike. See you guys Tuesday (if not before...)

Just another reminder that we will be having league twice this week to make up for Ike....tomorrow & the regular Thursday night. Also...please note that we really need to start no later than 5:30. A couple of people didn't start until nearly 6:00 last week & they basically had to finish in the dark...and we had to wait to do tags with the mosquitoes & park personnel biting us & waiting for us to get the hell out! After this, we will be moving league to Sunday afternoons (see houstonbirdshot.com for details)...

We'll be playing week six of the second six-week league this Sunday....we'll be playing the ABC holes as part of the course this week. I mistakenly told some players last week that the next league would start up in three weeks (one more week of this series & then a week off)...well, we're not taking a week off so the next six-week series will kick off Sunday November 16...flex time between 1:00 and 3:00 (with the time change, starting any later would probably have you finishing in the dark!). The cost is $20 for the whole six weeks....you get to drop your two worst scores (or miss two Sundays)....cash payout (minus expenses) for the top half of each division. We will be playing the aforementioned ABC holes on the third & sixth weeks of each series. Tired of being an armchair quarterback at home in front of the tube? Then get yoself out to da park and play!!!

Thanks to all the players who participated in this six week league....Chuck should get the other scorecards today after work (if you guys put them in the box!) and get the results up in a day or two. We'll have payout next Sunday when we start the next six weeks. Looks like we'll have quite a few more join up this time around...it's been pretty crowded these past few Sunday afternoons & the guys not playing league seem interested in getting in on this thing. The more the merrier...and the the bigger the prize pool! Come on out November 16 between 1:00 & 3:00 for our third six-week league start-up!

Just a reminder that the next six-week league series starts this afternoon...flex time between 1:00 & 3:00. I'll be there early with payout from the last six weeks...and judging from some of the responses from non-league players who have been watching us play the past few weeks, I think we might have a few more people sign up this time around. Remember...$20 for the whole six weeks....you get to drop your two worst scores and we'll do cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks. Ya'll come!

11-30-2008, 11:26 AM
If you're interested in getting in on this six week session, today would be the last day to get in (this is week three)....remember, you can miss two or drop your two worst scores, so you can still start today if you want to. Also, we will be playing the ABC holes today...flex from 1:00 to 3:00!

We had a big group of no-shows for this six weeks of league yesterday, so Chuck & I decided we would suspend league play until after Texas States is over with. That will also give anybody playing the WLS series a chance to get those last few games in before the finals at the end of March. States is April 4th & 5th, so we will most likely start league up again the following Sunday (April 12). We were also talking about utilizing the new course for the next six week league....my idea is to start on 10, 11 & 12....then play A & B (the one over the water)...then play the new #18 from the top of the hill....then walk over to the new course & play all of those on that side...and end up playing the long C-hole from the top of the hill as the 18th hole. Hopefully this sounds good to everybody & we'll get this thing started again in a few weeks. I still owe a couple of you guys payout....I'll either see you at the course or call me at 832-659-8449 & we'll arrange to meet up!

Just realized this past week that the first Sunday after States is Easter...so we'll start up league again on Sunday, April 19. Flex time will most likely be from 1 to 3:30, but it would be nice if everyone who is interested this time around would be there to sign up at 1:00. That way Chuck and/or myself won't have to sit around for 2 1/2 hours waiting for people to show up & sign up. We'd like to get out there & play just like the rest of you! Unless something changes we will be playing the holes I described in the last post, which ought to be a lot of fun. Everyone's been paid for the last six weeks except for Jason. If anybody talks to him ask him to get in touch...he got first place & if I were him I'd want my payout! See some of you at States & out & about!!!

Hi Jake,
Do you have distances for the new #1, #2, #3, #4 (5,6,7? not ready) I'm not sure where those 3 not ready fit in. I have some of the distances from the You Don't Know Jack Brooks scorecard. 15 - 852', 16 - 484', 17 - 410', #18? I think I am missing a hole in the woods. The one that comes out of the woods and you go to the right or left of the shoal for the short basket by the pond. Is that #9? If so, 9 - 213', 10 - 506', 11 - 401', 12 - 306', 13 - 356', 14 - 318'. I missed #8 because I can't quite visualize the woods holes yet. Anyway, if we do the new configuration for league, it would be nice to have the basket distances (not necessary, just nice).

I must say, impressive distances... Check back Friday morning for the most accurate numbers. I'm bringing the tape with me Thursday afternoon and will measure the unknowns.
For shights and giggles: (based on a righted throwing)
1. 230 (blind shot into woods) (annie or hyser)
2. 240 (crazy annie) (really a crazy flick)
3. 401 (long one paralleling Highland Bayou) (hyser)
4. 301 (the W tree gate) (straight or hyser)
5. 430 (beginning of the Bermuda triangle) (starts hyser finishes annie)
6. 350 (huge pines to the live oak tree) (hyser)
7. 630 (long through the woods) (starts out hyser, finishes annie)
8. 240 (crossing the trib) (straight) (big elev.)
9. 213 (first one out of woods and over the pond) (annie or spike hyser)
10. 506 (over the pond and into the shoul) (straight)
11. 401 (may be shorter) (hyser)
12. 301 (back toward road) (hyser or annie)
13. 376 (has been Aced already by Charles) (hyser to straight)
14. 335 (out of woods toward road) (straight or annie)
15. 852 (off the hill) (throw the long one)
16. 484 (to the pond) (annie or hyser)
17. 401 (cross the pond if you dare) (straight)
18. 320 (birdie off the hill) (hyser or annie)
Total: 7011 magical feet. Who will be first to par the course?

Jake, we've got a measuring wheel....we've got plenty of time to get those distances before league starts back up. Don't get out there & unroll tape unless you just absolutely want to! We'll wheel it here in the next couple of weeks. And for those of you South Side people who are not going out of town this weekend....get out there & give Jake some support! The all-of-a-sudden slow progress is bumming him out!!!

Birdshot is planning on starting league back up the weekend after Easter (April 19)....how many of you who read this post are interested in getting this going again? Did you enjoy having six-week leagues? Or would you be more interested in doing weekly mini's instead? If we decide to do league again, since daylight savings time has kicked in we can start later (flex from say 3:00 to 5:00?) so people who have church will have plenty of time to get through with that, eat & come out to play. If we did a mini every week, it would have to be at a set time & everyone would need to be there at the same time. Please post here with your comments & suggestions!

When the other course gets finished, the JBP club would like to again run weekly minis at the new course. No date or time set yet but it use to be on Sundays. The weekly mini was put on hold until the course was built.
Leagues are fun but they are alot of work to maintain.

Alright gang! I "conferred" with Jake this afternoon & I still need to get with Chuck on this one, but I think we'll start league back up very soon...but on a weeknight instead of Sundays. Once the second course is finished, Jake would like to start up his Sunday afternoon minis like he's done the past couple of years. Weeknight league will be great until we lose daylight again...but that won't be until the middle of the fall. The we might just suspend league for the winter months & start back up when daylight savings time kicks back in in the spring. How would Thursday nights be for people? Say flex-time between 5:00 & 6:00? Post here please if you are interested!......Billy "Birdshot" Gilbert

League will start back up on Wednesday, April 29...flex time between 4:30 and 6:00....$20 for six weeks, best of four scores counted! Ace pot left over from last league is at $100.00!!! Nobody posted a preference for a weeknight here...Thursday's were bad for Chuck because of work, so Wednesdays it is! We will play the regular course this first six weeks...hopefully by the next six-week period, the new course will be finished. If not, we'll work out an alternate layout then. So if you read this & you're a Brooks player, be sure to pass the word around...Chuck will post something at the park in the next day or two...and we'll hopefully see a lot you on the 29th!!!! Don't forget....Hump Day League at Jack Brooks Park....let's start humpin'!!!!

Billy,
I would just like to go on the record and say that Wednesday's would not be good for me. I know it really doesnt matter but I liked the Thursday idea.
I would also consider making the flex time at 5:15-5:30. That would give everyone plenty of time to get there from work and most importanly it would make sure everyone was playing together. I just finished the TC Jester league and there was no problem with everyone showing and starting at the same time. I feel if I am competing for money than I want to play with my group or level. I feel this was a small issue on the last league. I think it will help keep people honest. I dont by no means want to assume people would cheat but I think it would be a best practice to start everyone at the same time. Thanks.

Well, like I said...Thursdays were bad for Chuck because of work. Mid-week seemed good to us....and we sometimes like to go play the Tuesday night SW Handicapped Minis, so we decided on Wednesday. I'm guessing that's bad for you because of church. Any night we pick will be bad for somebody for whatever reason, so what are you gonna do? As far as flex time goes, many leagues have this kind of spread....if everybody shows up at Jester at the same time every week, more power to 'em! But I don't think that always happens with leagues....as far as my schedule goes I could be there some days by 5:15...another day it might be closer to 5:45 or 6:00...it just depends on how quickly I can get away from my office & how bad the traffic might or might not be. If there's certain players that you would like to compete with in league, then I would suggest you guys get together & work out what time your group would like to start. Thanks for your input & I'm sorry if Wednesday's are bad....again, nobody posted anything either way for a preference so we decided on it ourselves.

Thanks for replying. I understand that there will be a conflict with scheduling for at least one or two people always.
I think that is a pretty good idea as far as setting a time with a certain group. I just think waiting at the park for more than 3 hours to play one round is harsh. If I got there at 4:30 and no one showed up until 5:30, that means I wouldnt get out of there until 6:30 or 7:00.
I think that your idea might work though. I could talk to some of the guys in our group and meet at a certain time like 5:30 or 5:45. That should be a decent time and should be done in time for a casual round afterwards.

04-22-2009, 03:01 PM
I understand....and some people like to get there early! When we were doing Sunday league we were telling people flex from 1:00 to 3:00...but there was almost ALWAYS a group (usually Dane Pickens & friends) that was ready to start at noon! And then there were always a few (you & Bubba come to mind) that didn't get there until 3:30 or after (I understand about you coming later on Sundays because it would have to be after church). The reason we decided on starting at 4:30 is because Chuck teaches at Hitchcock High School & will be coming straight from work & that's about when he would get there. I can't get there until between 5:00 & 5:30, so I would be one of the later people. Let's see who all shows up to sign up next week & then hopefully you can work a good time out between you & your fellow advanced players to meet & play.

But seriously folks....next week starts up another six weeks & we will finally be playing the new course, although we will have to be creative on two holes since there are a couple of the new ones not quite ready yet. Thanks for running the league. I had a good time and our group was very competitive all the way to the end.
I am sorry however that I wont be able to play the league on Wednesday's. That was conflicting with my schedule badly. I am willing do go to Tuesday's or Thursday's but I have to reserve my Wednesday. I hope you understand.

We'll be playing the new course this six weeks (we start up on Wednesday)...and will be substituting a couple of holes for the two that aren't quite ready yet. We'll be meeting at the pavillion over by the memorial....$20 for six week league....drop your worst two scores...win by accumulating points (the more people you beat, the more points you get)...come on out & let's start breaking in this wonderful new course!!!
Flex between 4:30 & 6:00....CASH PAYOUT AT THE END OF THE SIX WEEKS!

Actually, the points format for league is just like HFDS except we start with 10 points for 1st place, 9 for second, so on. If we get more than 10 people sign up for a division we will start with a high enough number to cover everybody in the division. I think HFDS starts with 30 points for 1st. League is a good way to committ to playing that one day every week, make new friends, and learn from your competitors.:)

Well, the only ones to show up for league this six weeks on the new course were us "old guys"! Me, Chuck & Bob Panico are going to battle it out the next six weeks by ourselves unless some more players show up next week to get in on this. It's kind've disappointing to see so many people out playing these courses who don't seem to want to get involved with league....Cody & Bubba showed up Wednesday but with no competition they opted out! I guess we could have blown it off, but the three of us decided to all play Intermediate against each other & toughen up our game on the new course.

We will be moving back to the original course next Wednesday to start another six weeks...it would be great if some of you people would sign up & start a little competition again. You're all out there playing anyway....so why not play league? Remember....$20 for six weeks....drop your two worst rounds (or miss two weeks!)....cash payout to the top half of each division. We've been doing this for a year almost now & got a good response the first few sessions, but it's dwindled the past few months....this is the only league down south....what are you afraid of? We had six hearty souls show up for league last night....Jake Walsdorf & Brian (Boo) Pearson playing Expert...and myself, Chuck, Bob Panico & Brent Crowell (a new player!) playing Rec! That's twice as many as we had last time at the new course, but we would love to see more. As Jake pointed out last night, it isn't the best course for league play because it's so much longer than a lot of courses...but I still don't see anything wrong with a little friendly competition over there. Why build the course if people are not going to play it? Come on out next week & give the six of us a little bit of a run for our money! It's not too late...you can even join up at week three & get your four games in (you just wouldn't get to drop your worst two)! I've talked to almost all of the league players today & everybody's in agreement to move back over to the old course to finish up this six weeks league. We were unable to finish week two last week (park guy ran us out!) & then Chuck lost the card that had our scores so far at SVSV this weekend...so basically we are starting week two tonight all over again...which means if you want to get in on this thing, you may certainly do so this afternoon. We gotta start no later than 5:15 or 5:30 though...or we will run out of light! Twenty bucks for six weeks...drop your two worst games (one drop already for missing week one!)...win points for how you place in your division....cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks.

Been a long time since I got on this thread! Hey gang, daylight savings time is closer than we think (March 14th)...Chuck & I would like to get league back up & running ASAP after that kicks in. We've still got $100 ace pot money waiting for someone to win it (no, we didn't spend it over the winter!) and with the popularity of RJ's PhaseWon minis on Sundays it seems to me like a lot of you would want to get involved in league. My question is, what weeknight would be best for people? That might be a tricky question, because what's good for some won't be good for others. Anyway...if anybody is interested please respond here. Maybe I should just throw Wednesdays out there & see what you guys & gals think. The fees will be the same as before....$20 for six weeks....drop your two worst scores (or miss two weeks)....$1.00 into ace pot every week if you wish...all divisions offered....cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks, then start it all over again!

Hey Billy,
As you and Chuck already know Wednesday is not a good day for me due to church and I am out of town in La. a lot. Thursday is my preferable day if I had to choose or vote for one. Thanks.:o

Gotcha, Sam! Three people had already mentioned Wednesday to me personally, so that's why I threw that out there. I guess you've moved back from the west side now, eh? Anybody else have a preference? I was trying to avoid Tuesdays because of SW Handicap Minis....and I was trying to avoid Mondays & Friday as well. Whatever day we choose, Miramar will be on the "other" day...which could run into the same problem for someone else!

Assuming I am able to play due to foot problems I have been experiencing for awhile now I am ok with either Wednesday or Thursday. I wasn't aware that daylight savings was coming so soon. I have another doctors appointment on 2/22 and I should know if surgery is going to be required or not. Sure have missed playing.

Okay gang....Birdshot had a meeting last night & we talked about the war of the leagues!:p I convinced Chris to concede Miramar to Wednesdays...so since Brooks won the "battle", a bunch of you people better show up on Thursdays to play!!! Daylight savings time starts on March 14, so we will kick in Jack Brooks League on Thursday, March 18th...for right now (until the days get longer) we should probably get started no later than 5:30, and that might be pushing it at first. We'll be playing the original course....no ABC's....$20 for six weeks (drop your two worst scores or miss 2 weeks)....$1.00 ace pot every week if you choose (there's already $100 waiting for someone to hit it!)....cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks....then we start it all again! I will be trying to get there as close to 5:00 as possible...hopefully Chuck can get there by then or earlier if people want to start. Pass the word around to those who don't read this board...and we hope to see a lot of you there on March 18th!

I think it's been nearly a year (we take the winter off) since someone hit an ace during league at Brooks.....well, we had TWO last night! Mike Arellano hit on #4 & Jason Quinn hit on #16...they got to split $100.00!!! Mike hit his first & I had to call & tell him the "bad" news that someone else hit one too.:p Don't worry though....we have another $100 (or almost) in reserve for the next one (since we cap it at $100). You can still get in next week & get your four games in, so come on out & get some!

Just got a call from a league player asking if league is cancelled because of rain....short answer is no! The only time we cancel anything...whether it's a tourney or league or whatever...is if there is lightning present. And most of the time, there's no way to tell what's happening in that department until you get there. All I can say is show up & we'll see what's going on...if it's pouring down rain & everyone in your division wants to postpone & organize a make-up day, that could probably be arranged....but we usually will play in the rain (no whimps no whiners!), although Birdshot has been extremely lucky these past 2 and a half years for tourneys anyway. I've only seen league cancelled once because of the lightning....and we've only had rain on two of our bazillion events!

LAST CALL FOR 2010 LEAGUE TONIGHT!!! I'll be there at Gulf Meadows this afternoon no later than 5:00 to see if anyone is interested in trying another six weeks...to tell you the truth, I have my doubts that we can finish before dark and/or the parks guys running us out! Right now it's getting dark around 7:40....a couple of weeks from now it'll be 7:30 or earlier....if we don't start by 5:00 or 5:15 at the latest, I know we won't have time! Also...if there are only 3 or 4 of us that want to try, I don't think it's worth the time & effort it would take for me personally to get there in time the next six weeks. I can't leave an hour early every week & I'm sure there are some of you in the same situation! I know there are some people that can get there early enough to play a round, but some of us (including me) can't! Anyway....like I said, I'll be there to check things out...if nothing else a few of us can get a game in just for grins & see how dark it is when we finish! Okay, it's official.....Jack Brooks 2010 League is over! The few of us that did show up last night pretty much agreed that unless we could all get there before 5:00 to start (which we all can't!) then there's not much use in going another six weeks. Thanks to everyone who participated in this spring/summer/fall league for this year....as soon as daylight savings time kicks in again next spring we will rev it up again! Don't worry...your ace pot money is safe & sound and $100 will be waiting for someone to take it home next spring! Kudos especially to those of you who played the last 12 weeks at the Cedar Hills course....there were eight of us that tried to tame that bitch...only a couple of us were able to do so upon occasion! Don't forget there's still LOTS to be done to get ready for the B-tier on November 13th AND for Texas States next spring...we hope to see a lot of you out there to help!

Hi Brooks leaguers! As you all probably know, Texas States is heading to our course this year the first weekend in April! Normally I would be chomping at the bit to start league as soon as daylight savings time kicks in...which would be next week! However, since volunteers (hey, get out there & help, dammit!) will be working on the course up until the week of the tournament...and THEN the following week will be U S Masters in Huntsville (where I'll have to be from Wed-Sun that week)...we will not be starting league until after Masters. I'm also planning on moving league night from Thursdays to Wednesdays unless ALL of you have a problem with that. Not everybody reads this board, so those of you who do please spread the word & get back to me if you have any questions. As it stands right now, I'll be out there Wednesday April 13th at the Gulf Meadows course around 5PM to start Birdshot's 2011 Jack Brooks League!!!

Okay gang! States & Masters are done & now I'm ready to get back to normal disc golf things like league! Same as the past couple of years, except we'll be playing on Wednesday instead of Thursday...flex time for now about 5:15 (that's probably the soonest I can get there) and we need to start ASAP after that...no later than 5:30 for sure or it will get dark on us. That will change, of course, as the days grow longer...but for now try to be there in plenty of time to start playing at 5:30. We'll be playing the Gulf Meadows course this six week period for sure....$20 for all six weeks & optional dollar ace pot every week (I've already got $100 sitting around since last year waiting for someone to hit an ace!)...and either drop your two worst scores or miss two weeks (however that works out for you). Chuck won't be able to make it this six weeks as far as I know so it's all on me....any questions, please call me (Billy Gilbert) at 832-659-8449. Just realized I forgot to post last week's scores...sorry! It's been a busy week! In the Open division, newcomer Travis Powell put a hurt on everybody else shooting a 49! Boo Pearson came in 2nd with a 55, Lee DeForke 3rd with a 57 & Cody Carothers with a 58. Mike Arrellano flew solo in Intermediate last week & shot a 57...and I decided to play my rating in Rec & shot a 61. Tomorrow will be the last chance to get in on this six weeks if you're interested...there are four weeks left & you have to play at least four rounds, so come on out & give me some competition in the Rec division! Mike & Mike could use a couple more people in Intermediate too! We haven't even had anybody sign up for Advanced yet....all those guys are goin' Pro!!!

Here are the results for the third week of spring league....in Open, Lee DeForke came in first with a 49, Cody Carothers right on his heels with a 50, Jake Walsdorf in 3rd with a 55, Travis Powell & Michael Ynfante (new this week) tied for 4th with a 56 & Boo Pearson went away with a 62. I was the only non-open player there so I beat myself again with a 66. Mike Arrellano was a no-show & Michael Solis decided he can't committ, so Mike A. is battling himself also. Hopefully we can get a few more people interested between now & May 25th, which is when the next six weeks will start.

Results for Week Four - May 4th - In the pro field, Michael Ynfante took it with this series lowest score yet shooting a 48, Boo Pearson right behind with a 49, Travis Powell in 3rd sith a 52, Lee DeForke in 4th with a 58, Cody Carothers in 5th with a 59 & Jake Walsdorf walking away in shame with a 64. ;) Once again, Mike Arrellano & myself beat ourselves up...Mike with a 65 & Billy with a 69 (haw, haw, haw....69!). We'll be starting a new six weeks on Wednesday May 25th for those of you who missed out on it this time!

Week six tonight and payout! Don't forget to let people who don't read this board know that we will be starting a new six weeks next Wednesday, May 25th....try to convince them that this is the cheapest way to play a little friendly competition. I mean $20 for six weeks? C'mon!!! Where are all those local players who shell out ten bucks for a one round mini on Sunday mornings? Not knocking R.J.'s minis...I play those too! I'm just sayin'....see you guys tonight!

Here are the final results for the first six weeks of the 2011 Jack Brooks League...in the Open division, Boo Pearson took first place with a total of 35 points, Travis Powell & Michael Ynfante tied for second place with 33.5 points each...and Jake Walsdorf & Lee DeForke tied for third with 33 points each. Mike Arrellano & myself were alone in intermediate & recreational divisions, so we beat ourselves! Here's hoping that a few more of you Ams will sign up for the next session...and speaking of that, I had originally planned to start up the next six weeks next Wednesday on May 25th...but the general consensus of the group was to take a week off from league & start up again on June 1st instead. Mike Ynfante was talking about meeting at the Hills course next Wednesday for a $5 mini...anybody interested in that should just show up between 5:00 & 5:30 at the new course. Some of the players are ready to move league over to the Hills, but I really think it's still a little early to do that...it would no doubt get dark on us if we start over there next session because that course takes a LOT longer to play. I say we do another six weeks at the Meadows and THEN do six weeks at the Hills. After that six weeks, we'll all probably be ready to finish the rest of the year at the Meadows course for league. So....spread the word tho those who don't frequent this message board....summer session will begin at Gulf Meadows on Wednesday, June 1st...flex between 5:30 and 6:00...hope to see a few more of you there!

Don't forget.....new session starts next Wednesday the 1st...not this Wednesday the 25th! But you can still meet Michael Ynfante for a round on Cedar Hills this week if you want to...

New six weeks session starts up tomorrow at Gulf Meadows course....flex between 5:30 & 6:00....$20 for six weeks...drop your two worst games (or miss two weeks)....cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks! We had a good group of open players the last six weeks but NO AMATEURS except for me & Mike Arrellano....don't make us donate to the open players, come on out & play with us! I don't know of a cheaper way to play competitive disc golf...if you were to show up at a mini somewhere for one round you will pay anywhere from $5 to $20...and that's for one round!!! Let's see...$20 divided by 6 games....that's about $3.33 per week (not including the $1 ace pot if you want in on that)! We've still got a hundred dollar ace pot ready to go right now & another one building up...I see you guys out there playing all the time when we're there playing league....come on over & sign up & join us!

Here are the results for the first week of this summer session...in the Open division Travis Powell shot a lights out 47 for 1st place, Lee DeForke followed with a 52, Cody Carothers shot a 53, Michael Ynfante shot a 55 & Jake Walsdorf shot a 56. Boo Pearson should be back next week & will be playing in this division also. I was able to talk two new Rec players into starting this week...Andrew Hernandez & Chris Gomez walked up as we were about to start & joined in. It was Chris' birthday & unfortunately he had to leave mid-round to go eat with his family, but he says he'll be back next week. His girlfriend Kayla played with us & she's pretty good...she didn't want to compete in league but she should. Andrew & I finished out with a close game...I shot a 66 and he shot a 67! Mike Arrellano was absent last night but will be back next week...he needs some people to sign up in the Intermediate division, so please come on out next week & get signed up...tell your friends, tell your doctor, tell your teacher, shout it from the rooftops! :D

Here are the results from Week Two of the first summer league Wednesday night....Cody took the open division with a 51, Mike took second with a 56 & Boo took third with a 57. In the Rec division, Chris came back strong & smoked us with a 61, I shot a 67 & Andrew shot a 69. Since nobody else has signed up for the Intermediate division, Mike Arrellano decided to skip out this six weeks...I don't blame him 'cause it's not fun to compete against yourself (also his work has been really busy the past couple of weeks, so it's all good!). You can still get in on this session if you show up to play next week...so come on out if you're interested!

Here are the results from last night's league play.....in the open division Travis Powell came in first this week with a 51, Boo Pearson & Lee DeForke tied for 2nd with a 53, Mike Ynfante came in 4th with a 54 and Cody Carothers flip-flopped from his win last week shooting a 57...all good scores, but that's why they play open!;) It was just me & Andrew Hernandez in the Rec division last night & Andrew kicked my ass by four strokes shooting a 63 to my 67....it was time for him to win one! We'll get out there & battle the heat again next week for Week Four!

Here are the results from week four of the first summer league...in Open, Cody Carothers & Travis Powell were tied at 49 going into Hole 18...but Travis carded a double on that hole & Cody parred, so Cody took 1st with the 49, Travis in 2nd with a 51, Jake Walsdorf came in 3rd shooting a 52 & Lee DeForke gave up some strokes with a 60. On the Rec card, I took 1st with a 62, Chris Gomez took 2nd with a 66 & Andrew Hernandez finished up with a 70. This was our first oppurtunity to test out the new concrete boxes on the Gulf Meadows side with muddy surroundings & I have to say that although the mud is still a drag (and we kinda dirtied up the boxes scraping our shoes on the sides) what a great thing it was being able to tee off without possibly doing a somersault & landing on your ass! I'm sure the sentiment would be the same on the new course as well, especially since there's so much more elevation change over there & more chances to muddy up your shoes....yay for concrete!:D

I just realized that I hadn't posted last week's results yet! In Open, Travis Powell shot a smokin' 48 for 1st place, Boo Pearson was hot on his heels with a 49 for 2nd, Lee DeForke & Michael Ynfante tied for 3rd both shooting a 53, Cody Carothers took 5th with a 57 & Jake Walsdorf brought up the rear shooting a 61. In our little Rec division, yours truly pretty much put a lock on top spot shooting a 60 (hey, I beat Jake!), Andrew Hernandez came in 2nd with a 64 & Chris Gomez came in 3rd shooting a 69! Tomorrow is the final week of this session & payout...we'll take a vote to see whether everyone wants to skip a week before starting up again (I say we start right back up next week!). The next session we're going to play over on the new course, but for time & energy's sake we will only be playing 15 holes...we're going to skip holes 15, 16 & 17 which are out in the open & slightly long & time consuming. That way we can be sure to finish before dark & before the parks people run us out! See you guys tomorrow afternoon!

Here are last night's results....in Open, Travis Powell smoked 'em again with a 48 for 1st place, Jake Walsdorf made a comeback for 2nd with a 52, Mike Ynfante shot a 53, Lee DeForke shot a 54 & Cody Carothers shot a 61. In Rec, Andrew Hernandez came in 1st with a 62, I shot a 63 & Chris Gomez shot a 65. For the end of the six weeks Travis had a solid four wins for 40 points for 1st place and $65, Cody came in 2nd with 34 points & $35 and Lee beat Mike by half a point with 32 points for 3rd & $20. In Rec, I ended up with 39 points for 1st place and $40...and Andrew was just one point behind me with 38 points and $20. We are NOT going to take a week off before starting up again, so if you're interested in some great league competition come on out to the NEW course next week for a new six week session on Cedar Hills. The pros think they can play all 18 holes in plenty of time, but we all still think it would be best if we can start by 5:30 rather than 6:00. Cedar Hills is a much longer, more technical course...us Rec players might just be playing 15 holes in order to finish before dark...we'll have to play it by ear & see how it goes. Remember...$20 for six weeks....drop your two worst games (or miss two weeks)...cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks! Hopefully Mike Arrellano can make it back out this time & bring some intermediate/advanced players with him to make a division...or if some more of you Rec players want to join Andrew, Chris & myself to make that division a little bigger...we would love to see as many people as possible!

Week One of Birdshot's next six week summer league starts this afternoon at the Cedar Hills course! This course takes a lot longer to play than Gulf Meadows so the closer to 5:30 that we can start the better off we will be! Same price as usual....$20 for the whole six weeks (we're talking a bargain here for competitive golf!)...drop your two worst scores or miss two weeks (like me 'cause I'm going to New York for Worlds next week!)...100 % cash payout to the top half of each division at the end of the six weeks! Come on out & play the course that Nikko conquered to win this year's Texas States...help us wear it down while it wears us down!:D

Yes, there was mud on Cedar Hills...a lot of it! However...as Jake said, those concrete boxes at least enable you to drive without falling on your ass! Here are the results from week one....in the Open division, Cody Carothers had a smoking round of 61 for 1st place, Mike Ynfante shot a 62 for 2nd, Lee DeForke shot a 64 for 3rd, Boo Pearson shot a 67 for 4th & Travis Powell & Jake Walsdorf both shot a 72 to tie for 5th place. In the Rec division, I barely squeeked by for 1st place with a 73 while Chris Gomez & Andrew Hernandez tied for 2nd both shooting a 74. We also actually all finished before dark too, so it CAN be done! I'm out for the next two weeks because I'll be in Rochester, New York playing ar Worlds...so Cody said he will keep scores for me & collect ace pot money. We didn't gain any new people last night but we didn't lose anybody either, so that's cool. Remember that you can come in as late as the third week & still get your four games in...so anybody that wants to get in for this six weeks has a couple more weeks to do so! If Cody feels like it, he can post up results here the next couple of weeks....look for a post from Saucerslinger if he does. Thanks in advance, Cody...and I'll see you guys in three weeks!

Haven't left for Worlds yet, so I was able to play last night...and here are the results! Only three of our six Open players were present last night...Boo took 1st place shooting a very nice 59, Cody took 2nd with a 66 & Jake took 3rd with a 74. Marty Berry rolled with those guys just for grins & Chris MacGregor rolled with us Rec players! I took 1st place with a 74, Chris Gomez took 2nd with a 78 & Andrew came in 3rd with an 83. Next week I definitely WILL be in New York, so Cody will collect ace pot dollars & keep up with scores...remember that next week will be the last week you can still get in to this session & get your four rounds in, so if you'd like to come battle the big boys course with us please come on out & bring your skills with you!

Tonight's the 4th week over at Cedar Hills....haven't seen the results from last week yet, but I'm sure Cody has the cards. I had a great time in Rochester last week until I had to come home before the last day for a funeral....at least 20 degrees cooler than here! Surprised at how many mosquitoes there were in New York, although they only came out at night....must be vampire skeeters! See you this afternoon!

Here are week three results....in Open, Cody took 1st place shooting a 60, Boo in 2nd with a 63, Mike Ynfante in 3rd with a 68 & Travis in 4th with a 69. In Rec, Chris killed it with a 74 to Andrew's 84! The other night in week four...on the Open card, Cody killed it again with a 55 (that's 3 down over there!), Lee came in 2nd with a 61, Travis in 3rd with a 62, Boo took 4th with a 64 & Jake ended up with a 69. In Rec, Chris killed me shooting a 70 to my 80! Thanks to to Cody for keeping track of last week's round while I was at Worlds...and congrats for shooting that hot 55 the other night!
