BADGERS Mini Series/Thursdays/South Side

Chris MacGregor & I started a Bay Area Disc Golfers (or BADGERS) group on FB late last year so that those of us who live out here on the South Side could communicate with each other about getting together to play our favorite sport...after talking to the players of the Birdshot Miramar & Brooks leagues we all took a vote & decided to have a rotating mini series featuring the South Side courses! We'll be playing on Thursdays beginning March 22nd at the Miramar course in Seabrook....then we will be alternating between Taylor Lake Village, both of the Jack Brooks courses & possibly Burke-Crenshaw in Pasadena & Woody St. Park in Pearland. If the courses in League City & Friendswood get off the ground before daylight savings time ends then they'll go into the mix as well. A few players have also requested that we throw Tom Bass into the mix also...we'll be taking a poll from players after we get started regarding Bass & Burke-Crenshaw & Woody St. As we begin we'd like to get rounds started between 5:00 & 5:30 as it will still be getting dark around 7:30 until the days get longer. Entry fees every week will be $10 for Super Open & $5 for everyone else...also throw in a buck for the ace pot if you want to (and you DO want to...we'll be starting out with both Miramar & Brooks league ace pots combined, as per the permission of those league players!). Payout every week just like a normal mini...no handicaps like ERic's SW Mini Series, just straight scores....top 50% of the AM divisions & most likely the top third of the Super Open players! I believe the only league play we'll be sharing a night with is the Moffitt league, which most of us on the South Side don't have time to make in the first place & probably the same for those guys coming down south from there....so one should not cancel out the other, for the most part. There are a lot of great players out here in the Bay Area...come on down & get you some beginning Thursday, March 22nd at the Miramar Park Disc Golf Course in Seabrook! Remember....BADGERS don't take no you-know-what!!!

Tomorrow at Jack Brooks....BAMS (Bay Area Mini Series) heads to Gulf Meadows for our second week! It's easy to become a BADGER (Bay Area Disc Golfer)...just show up! I'll be there by 5:00 for sure....let's try to tee off by 5:30 so we can finish up before dark, okay? And remember...Badgers don't take no &%*#!!!

The rain stopped around 5:15 & we were able to play! We had three players in "super-open"....Dax 51, Cody 52 & Marty 61....two Int players...Frankie 63 & Jason 66....and two Recs...Billy 63 & Kula 66. Thanks to you die-hards for coming out & tromping around the course with me in the mud!!! Next week, how's about we head over to TLV?

I believe we had 26 players show up at TLV last week....great crowd! This Thursday is Chris' birthday & he wants to play Gulf Meadows, so that's where we'll be this Thursday at around 5:00...come on out as early as you can so we can get started by 5:30 please...otherwise we'll be finishing in the dark! Since Chris is in my division, let's get him as drunk as possible so maybe I can beat him! See you BADGERS on Thursday!

Well, Mr. MacGregor was sick for his birthday (bummer ) so he missed the 25 BADGERS who showed up at Brooks for BAMS last night (and they missed him too!). We had 8 players in Super Open (TM)...Travis took first with a smokin' 49, Dax with a 50, Adam with a 51, then Sam 52, Griff 53, Robert 54 & Stephen & Cody both with a 57. The big field was Intermediate with 14 players...Doug took 1st place with a 54, Mike & Derek C. tied for 2nd shooting 55, then Henry 56, Grant 57, Curtis & Derrick S. tied for 6th with 59, Clint 60, Jason 61, Darrin 62, Robert & Scott 65, Frankie 66 & Rick 68. There were 3 of us in Rec...I took 1st with a 63, Chris with a 67 & Charles with a 71. A big thank you to Stephen McFarland for having his computer handy to help me figure out that Intermediate payout! Next week we'll head back to Seabrook to play Miramar...see you there!

Results from last night at Miramar....in Super-Open (TM) Griff took 1st place with a 44, Adam 47, Travis 48 & Dax 51 (all good scores!)...in Intermediate, Joe took 1st with a 52, Mike & Henry tied for 2nd with a 53, Doug 55, Darrin 61, Nathan 62 & Robert 63...in Rec, Kahlila (Kula) dominated with a 57, Chris 61, Billy 65 & Cam 89 (the woods were not kind to Cam!). Next Thursday we'll make our way back over to TLV....bring it!

Hope to see a lot of smiling faces out at TLV this afternoon....if any of you have some new and/or unused plastic you'd like to donate to HFDS for The Moffitt Show this Saturday, please bring it with you & I'll get it to Moffitt Saturday morning. The HFDS inventory is finally dwindling & we are in need of some fresh discs! Remember that The Moffitt Show is a yearly fundraiser for HFDS, so be generous & bring that plastic! Thanks!

I've been posting results here the past few weeks when Chris was gone but Chris has the results from last night & either he'll post them or not...LOL! I do know however that Charles Worster had the lowest score & got to be the first BADGER to take home the Super Duper Trophy for the week! Whoever takes it home each week is supposed to add something to it, preferably disc golf related & must be suitable for a seven year old sitting at the kitchen table to look at.......congrats, Charles! Also as the rest of the divisions were waiting for our Rec card to finish, some of the guys were throwing bombs across the course & apparently some older couple out walking their dogs ON THE COURSE thought that Griff & friends were throwing at them & yelling stuff at them, so they called the police. Two cruisers pulled into the parking lot a few minutes later to investigate...Griff explained to them what was going on & very politely told them that we know it's a privilege to have this course here...that many of the players there had helped to design & build the course & the last thing we want to do is piss off the neighbors (again!). Griff told me that cops were very nice & understood what was going on. They asked Griff if he had yelled something at the couple & Griff told them, "Yes...I yelled fore!". I told Griff maybe the lady had thought he yelled "whore"? Anyway...amusing story & nobody went to jail. See what you missed by not being there? Next week....back to Brooks & the Gulf Meadows course!
