Talking Taylor Lake Village's Course Proposal

All,

Taylor Lake Village is considering a 9 hole disc golf course in their park on Kirby just north of NASA Parkway, about 4 miles for Miramar Park. Take a look at the links in the right hand column on their city's website:

http://www.taylorlakevillage.us/

I live near this park and have often thought it would make a great location for a short course. With the decimation of the Pasadena course it would be great to have another short course in the area. Let's all show our support for the course.

I've found more information on this course.

The location of the course is here: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...78d6c9d1d79831

The proposal is for a 9 - 12 hole course located in a park about 4 miles from Miramar Park in Seabrook on the north shore of Clear Lake. The city of Taylor Lake Village has been raising funds for this course since March. Their original plan was to break ground in May and have the course ready to play by now, but raising the money hasn't been easy. Taylor Lake Village is on the north shore of Clear Lake and many of the businesses are still dealing with Ike repairs and other financial concerns.

Currently they have about a third of the money raised. Another $5,000 - $6,000 needs to be raised and they're looking for volunteers to help with the basket installation. This park is already pretty well maintained without a lot of brush to be cleared. All that's needed are Tee Boxes and baskets and people to help install them.

I've been trying to think of some fund raisers and have approached a few local business people to pitch a hole sponsorship too. If anyone is in the area and wants to help please let me know. To make this course a reality all that is needed is the funds to be raised. TLV has approved it, we just need to help them make it happen.

Chris,

I am willing to help and I'm sure all the locals that play Seabrook will be willing to pitch in. I saw this tread and let everyone know and all are pretty excited. Johnny said he is interested in sponsoring a hole for his construction business and if we throw a few mini tournys at Miramar I bet we could get the awareness up, raise some money, and get a few more people to pitch in. Make sure you come to the Mini Birdshot is throwing on the 20th of this month and we can coordinate some of this. Let me know when you might be playing Miramar and I can probably meet up if I'm in town to see what we can do.

This is Steve Green -- I'm the project coordinator for the proposed course at TLV park. We need ~ 9 k$ plus volunteer time to put in a 12 hole course and we have a little over 1/2 of that committed. Got two new commitments (300$) in the past 3 days from the Chron.Com article last Thursday.

I'm a bit of a virgin to this HFDS thing and I'm having trouble figuring out how to make postings.

BTW ... I'm a virgin to this website but not the game. Played on Texas A&M's Ultimate team in 1986 -- we actually took a Savage Seven team to the Collegiate Regionals that year. Played 1987 until ~ 1995 bi-weekly and at tournaments with Club Mud in Clear Lake (formerly the Clear Lake International Tossing Society if you know what I mean). If you used to play with the Alvin Hounds, Elvis From Hell, or the Ether Bunnies you probably know me. The older I get, the more hamstring pulls I get playing ultimate so disc golf is looking like a pretty good alternative right now (I'm 45). Picked up disc golf about a year ago and love it ... have a strong snap so I anhyzer many discs that really aren't supposed to do that. Makes the game interesting.

Any offers welcome. Donations are to Taylor Lake Village City and are fully tax deductible. 2500$ buys rights to name the course (name on big f-ing sign and each hole). 1000$ buys rights to sponsor a hole. 500$ buys rights to sponsor half a hole.

ANYTHING welcome ... want to make this a reality REAL bad. When the oak trees at TLV park are leafed out (like right now) you can lay out some VERY challenging holes (i.e., 3-4 ways to play it ... you figure out what works for you). Big limbs in each direction, baskets behind trees ... your turn to get creative. PLEASE HELP ME MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Please advise also on better ways to make postings/attachments etc to this site.

Also ... if anyone has seen the course layout at http://www.taylorlakevillage.us/ if you have options to improve design or want to call me at 281-773-9539 to go test-drive / improve the layout, please call anytime.

Just curious why you are doing 12 holes and why that is $9,000?
