Get out those pens & pencils & mark this date on your calendars, folks....DG Consultants & Birdshot are excited to officially announce our first B-tier tournament on Saturday, September 12! We're still working out all of the details, so stay tuned for the final info on registration & fees. We do know already that for this one we are going to make it PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY! The golf course will be closed that day & we will be doing two different configurations of 21 holes. We've already started sponsorships but if you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring, Andi will post a link here with info on sponsorship packages. We are allowing 105 players, but once word gets out about this one I think players will be signing up in droves! Again, once we get all of the final details we will post here & start registrations....maybe before Andi & Don head off to Worlds....if not, then immediately after that's all over with. For right now, though, don't make any other plans for September 12....plan on coming out to SVSV & join us for this very exciting B-tier!!!

Billy is absolutely correct. We are having a B-tier on Saturday, September 12th at Spring Valley. It's being called SVSV...Spring Valley Spectacular V. And he posted info to help me initiate 'getting the word out' at my request. Let me thank him first and then apologize for changing details. So let's proceed to sort out some details for you all.
The tournament is going to be 2 rounds of 21 holes. We are entertaining the thought of hosting 105 players but have decided we need to test the course configurations for timeliness to insure a daylight finish. So until further notice the tournament will be capped at 84 maximum players and early registration IS HIGHLY encouraged since there WILL BE Saturday am signups accepted (unless the field fills prior) but it will carry a $10 late registration fee. Many more details to come including player’s pack info and how much cash will be added beyond the $500 minimum required for B-tiers. We have an awesome staff working on this event with Birdshot and the Northside Chaingang, so like Billy said originally…mark your calendar for SVSV on 09/12/09 and stay tuned to this station for more on this event as it unfolds!! |

When will this become available for online registration? Will it be listed on the PDGA site or will it be on DiscNation or TitleDisc?
Inquiring minds want to know! And is Birdshot handling the sponsorship stuff for this? The Commando Mini is down for a $100 sponsorship on this...when will it be needed? Can I just bring it to the event or would you prefer having it in advance? |

Doesn't it get dark at like 9pm? 5 people would allow the tournament to fill without as many divisions being weighted too much. At 84 players very few out of towners would end up making it as I would assume many of those spots would be taken up by the usual Birdshot attendees.
I just think if one of the goals is to actually bring in out of town players (which Houston doesn't do well) then you should try 5 players per card if needed. As long as you started by 10am there should be no problem finishing by dark. |

If we start the morning round between 9:30 & 10:00, I am figuring at least 3 hours per round...maybe slightly more if we have five cards. If we can start up the afternoon round by 2:30 (at the latest) we should be okay...the more people we have pre-registered the quicker things will start in the morning. Online registration through the PDGA tour schedule page should be available very soon. Andi & Don said that any sponsorship money should be made out to & mailed to Birdshot....I am keeping a seperate ledger for sponsorship money coming in (don't worry...we won't use it for anything else!). Sponsorship promises are already looking really good....which means that any more we get is going to make the pro purse that much bigger! We are very excited to join DG Consultants for their fifth annual tourney & first B-tier for them & Birdshot!!!

I don't think that 5-somes will be feasible at all.
Right now, the Commando Mini usually runs 4-somes. We play the 18 Finesse holes and it takes between 2.5 and 3.0 hours to complete a round of 18 holes. Bumping this up to 5-somes results in a 3.0-3.75 hour round. Add another 3 holes out on the Power course to the existing Finesse layout and you'd probably be looking at 4 hour rounds. Tee off at 10 am ETA end of Round 1 is 2:00 pm 1 hour for lunch. Tee of Round 2 at 3:00 pm ETA end of Round 2 is 7:00 pm. We'd definately be doing awards in the dark...out of towners would be looking at getting back to Austin and San Antonio around 11:00pm and our Dallas brethren probably 1:00am on Monday. To a certain extent, the duration of the rounds are going to be heavily influenced by how many Power-9 holes are played each round. Most of those holes are par 5 for us mere mortal throwers...and so it takes a 4-some about 13 minutes to completely play a par three hole. It would take about 16 minutes for a 5-some to play the same par three hole. It would take 4-some about 20 minutes to play a par five hole and will take a 5-some about 25 minutes to play a par five hole. (These are very rough estimates and based on all players using their allotted 30 seconds per throw.) The card sizes and the number of Power-9 holes composing the 21 holes is gonna have BIG affect on the round durations. I'd be willing to wager that if we go to 5-somes then we'll be finishing in the dark.

Tiffany's the official TD for this one...I would hope that it would be spread out equally over the pro divisions, but I must differ to TiffStar! And as far as the times Larry talked about, he should know! He runs the Commando Mini out there every Sunday & probably has the best insight of any of us regarding how long these rounds might take....I would pay much heed to his advice (nudge-nudge!). Matt talked about limiting it to 85 would keep the pros away (no room because of the usual Birdshooters!)...to which I say sign up early so you guys won't have to worry about it.
