Howdy, my fellow flingers of plastic,
I'm not sure how many plastic flingers out there are hip to Houston Roller Derby, but I'm a Derby Brother, we set up & break down the track and provide support for the local skaters. Recently, we had a fund-raising event at Palace Lanes to help the Houston travel team get to regionals and nationals and the idea of having a golf tournament was brought up. Being a long-time plastic flinger myself, I floated the idea of making it a disc-golf tournament, with the idea that one alternative sport would be more attractive to the participants of another alternative sport. I have next to no experience with trying to set up an event at any of the local parks, which brings me to this website, hoping that some kind folks in the DG community that do have some experience in this area might be willing to give me some advice, pointers or any other kind of help. I was hoping to keep it somewhat centrally located to Houston, because through my experience, this seems to guarantee a better turnout. But on the other hand, it seems to me that Tom Bass would one of the more ideal places for such an event due to it being more wide open and having some pretty nice pavillions that can be reserved. Anybody out there that can help a brother out? Thanx, Conn |

Hi KublaConn,
First of all, what is KublaConn? Interesting. If you are not having to deal with a governing body like PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association), it is a lot easier. I can send you documents for easy to run tournaments that don't involve PDGA or I can send you documents (a lot) if you want to sanction the tournament through PDGA. The best thing for you to do is if you have time call me in the evening after 7 pm 832-632-2350. I am usually watching the Astros with halfhearted interest. Not a good year for the Stros. We can make a lot of headway quick over the phone. Or if you don't have time, email me at charleshconaway@yahoo.com Where is the Houston Roller Derby rink? Is it as rough as hockey? |
