Default Oak Meadow Ace Race

OAK MEADOW ACE RACE

When: October 17, 2009 at 10AM.

Format: Two rounds of 18 holes, one throw per hole per player.

Course layout: Holes are generally between 100 and 200 feet.

Entry fee: $25

Player package: Two Discraft prototype discs, plus a SuperColor mini and a Discraft hat. A $55 value!

Registration: Field is limited to 25 players (register early). Pre-registration is required. Limited slots will be available for registration after September 28th. Download registration forms here http://discgolfacerace.com/downloads/registration.pdf. Mail check or money order to Ramsey Womack, 17222 Williams Pine Dr., Cypress, TX 77433. I will be at the Spring Valley tournament if you would like hand in your registration form there.

Rules of play: Players are required to use the player package discs, and only these discs. If a disc is lost, the player has the option of using the second disc from the package. Only one throw per player per hole. All players should have their own scorecards and mark "A" for aces and "M" for holes on which they hit metal.
After all players in the group have thrown, discs are picked up and the group moves directly to the next tee. Players keep their scorecards for round two, using the next line on the card to record the round.
The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. In case of ties, the number of metal hits is used as a tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin contest is then used to determine the event winner.

Prize package: Grand prize is a Discraft merchandise package, including a bag and ten premium discs.

Optional Event: Casual round to follow Ace Race

Two main reasons:

1) Approval process through the HOA. As a resident, there is a simple and easy approval process to "use" oak meadow park for small events (birthday parties, family get togethers, etc...). As a resident, I am setting up such an event to use the park for an ace race. There is another process to "reserve" the park for large events (i.e. the Birdshot tournament in May). Due to late start I had in deciding to run an Ace race, I chose not to pursue the longer process.

2) I am personally new to disc golf. Not only have I never run and ace race, I have never attended one. I felt it would be easier to get a start by running a small one. This begs the question of why am I running one - well simply put, because I wanted to go to one, but the closest one I could find at the time I started planning was in Victoria.

I did, and still do, have concerns that a 25 person Ace Race is not enough for the Houston market. Discraft had the same concern as well when I was registering the event. Due to this, it was agreed upon that Discraft would allow additional Ace Races in Houston, to include NW Houston, if someone requests to run one. Personally, I think that a small ace race in Oak Meadow would be a great compliment to a larger "main event" Ace Race at another Houston area location.

Are they going to be counting the peeps that are there? I realize you only bought 25 packs, but can we let someone else use the other disc? That'll let an extra 25 peeps play, if so, and they can pay like $10 towards a side ace pot. (Where are you Phenom?? Share your insite!) Since a casual round follows, it's presumed that it'll be an all-day event.

As of now, there are plenty of spots available. I have received 9 registrations, and emails/PMs from another 3-5 saying there form is in the mail.

If you would like, you can send me a email/PM saying you have placed your registration form in the mail, and I can lock in your spot, as long as I recieve your email/PM by September 28th.

While I wish I could epand the cap this year, I am not sure if that would work. There is generally always two people from the HOA at the park on Saturdays. Currently, I have a very good relationship with the HOA and I would like to maitain that relationship in the hopes of possibly doing more and and/or larger events. In addition, I have to personally sign a legal waiver accepting responsibility in order to use the park.
