Default Houston Parks Rep. attending July 6th HFDS Meeting

Marshall Broadway is the contact person for Disc Golf for Houston Parks & Recreation. Marshall is a 'real go-getter' and wants to make a significant impact in promoting disc golf in Houston through the Houston Parks & Rec. Dept. and some of his current projects he is developing include:

(1) the posting of a Disc Golf Etiquette Poster at Each course in Houston that has a Bulletin Board;
(2) an intra-mural disc golf league for local universities (U of H, TSU Rice) at MacGregor Park;
(3) the installation of concrete tee-boxes at MacGregor; and
(4) the opportunities for HFDS and the local disc golf community to promote disc golf through increased cooperation with HPARD and to obtain local business and corporate sponsorships.

This meeting is an opportunity to ask questions about Houston Parks & Rec. and to suggest ideas that anyone might have about HPARD and disc golf. In my opinion having Marshall as the contact person at Houston Parks & Rec. is a tremendous opportunity for Disc Golf in Houston.

I strongly urge you to attend this HFDS meeting, Tuesday July 6th at 7 pm.

What happened to the plans for concrete tee boxes at Moffitt? I had heard rumblings a while back, and now that they've dumped that asphalt out there, has that been cancelled?

Just seems like attention is planned for the PC course, not the one getting the most use daily within our great city limits.

I will be happy to ask these questions if I am able to make tomorrow's meeting. However, if not there, I want to make sure we get answers to these questions.

The Moffitt course proposal is in its final stages of consideration by parks & rec. While I cannot promise concrete tee-boxes at Moffitt, the things I hear from 'my sources' is that the proposal will be approved. Be patient, Suemac.

The reason proposals for course improvements are taking a long time is that parks & rec. does not have a policy for receiving proposals for disc golf course improvements, requiring personal review and approval by Joe Turner, The Director of parks & rec. Marshall has advised that parks & rec. is creating a policy for receipt of disc golf proposals, which should speed up the process.

Concrete benches at Moffitt was an improvement. A message board at Mozola is an improvement. These may be relatively small things compared to improvements to the actual equipment and landscaping of the courses, but they demonstrate increased communications with parks & rec.

Not complaining, just wondering where things are before the meeting. I hope in the future they will visit with us about the best place to install benches. Allowing us to show them where they would best be used which is their goal to begin with. =)

See, this is what is going on at Moffitt and I hope we can get some answers about the (broken asphalt) why this, why now. Seems it creates more of a hazard than benefit.

agreed, they put the crushed gravel out at macgregor too and its awful. i wish theyd just leave it alone as the dirt/grass is much better than a bunch of rocks

Another issue with Moffitt, apparently it's been "long time" since mowed, and at knee height today.

I'm looking forward to this meeting and getting a chance to meet Mr. Broadway. I'm presuming that he will be bringing the list of HPARD requirements for submitting a proposal related to disc golf to them? It was promised over a month ago and I've been patiently waiting on it, but no word yet.

Concrete Tee-Box proposal for Moffitt went to the Houston Parks Boards and was denied on the basis of the funding. City unwilling to spend the $8,000 for the concrete tee-boxes. City will provide the labor and the equipment but not the materials. Thus, at this time, donations and/or grants would need to be the source of the funding. Hey buddy, can you spare $8k to the Houston Parks Board?

Actually, $4k if we can get matching funds from Tex. Parks & Wildlife Dept.

(Let me do the math, . . . 100 Moffitt Rats @ $40 bucks each = concrete tee-boxes). Elementary.

I mis-spoke of concrete and MacGregor. There is a move for poured and tamped asphalt tee-pads inside a frame.
